PRESS PICKS: Panel opens season with all-prep docket

Another season arrives for the panel (with two additions to the list of names to the panel). It will be interesting to see how long it takes before those who cover this sport for a living can really judge which teams are legit and which are trying to keep heads above water.
The high school season opens first. While not official, this is the earliest date for the AHSAA to open the season. But it’s all about the calendar. The zero date is the first full week of December when the Super 7 takes place. That’s where we are heading.
College football is attempting to creep up on the schedule, as well. More games will be played in “Week 0” than ever before. Don’t be surprised if more games are on the docket next year and the next and the next.
Fortunately, the weather in central Alabama will be unseasonably cool this week - cool as in low 90s as opposed to 100 degrees, which seems to be the summer average in 2022. It is still a dangerous precedent and hopefully we can avoid any serious heat situations.
So, sit back and enjoy the festivities of the new season. It will be over before you know it.
