PRESS PICKS (Week 4): Voters speak after crazy first week of college football

It’s the favorite time of the year.
The Week 1 overkill is back.
Back are the predictions of gloom and doom for the losers from Labor Day weekend. Back are the unbelievable accolades for the winners.
Back is the uneven change in the AP voting (Florida from NR to 12th? Bama got dropped by three voters from first to third?).
It all happens this week. Call it a readjustment, if only because we can.
It gives us a good idea of why these polls and the neanderthals voting on them are not part of choosing who goes to the playoffs. Heaven help us if that’s part of the “new” playoff with 12 teams. Or is it 16?
At this very moment, there are those trying to figure out if Notre Dame will get back in the playoff picture. Or if Bama or Georgia lose in the regular season and meet again, does that mean the SEC Championship loser is out?
And what about the Bulldogs (as in UGA).. they beat a ranked team…. Shouldn’t they be back on top.
At least some of the pollsters think so. Nevermind Oregon fell all the way out from a No. 11 perch last week.
It’s really comical. But it’s what we in the media do. We find a team and stay with it until they embarrass themselves and we jump on another bandwagon. This week it’s Florida. Next week it could be USC if the Trojans score a hundred on Stanford. Michigan is getting love again.
We are easily swayed by the big score and there are plenty of teams that are capable of putting up the crooked numbers.
But don’t let that fool you. As it happens every year, the cream will rise and the offenses will be back around the 30-35-point level after the “good” coaches figure them out.
Save the early-season dance for the ones that matter. (And that ain’t Florida.)
