PRESS PICKS (Week 7): Another week, another coach (or two) fired

Five for five.
That’s what the college season has given us as far as having coaches fired each week.
After each of the first five weeks of college football, at least one coach has been fired the following Sunday or Monday.
This week, two FBS coaches were given their walking papers with Karl Dorrell at Colorado and Paul Chryst at Wisconsin. It’s becoming the norm of the sport and that’s not necessarily a good thing.
Dorrell has been an abject failure having lost all but one Pac-12 game a year ago and starting 2022 with a 0-5 record.
But the Chryst firing is baffling. He has led the Badgers to three Big 12 championship game berths. He has two major bowl victories to his credit and has been coach of the year three times.
But the Badgers are 2-3 this season and have not looked very good. It’s almost as though the Wisconsin brass were waiting for the perfect moment to pull the plug. An inexplicable loss to Illinois apparently qualifies.
Admittedly, Chryst is not exactly a flamboyant personality, which isn’t necessary to be a winning coach. But he has won 65 games at the helm, and has kept the program in the conversation for the Big 10 championship almost every year.
While folks in this part of the world are on Bryan Harsin watch, the rest can keep their eyes peeled on the rest of the country and most assuredly there will be another one shown the door this weekend,
One of the bigger shakeups of the season after last week. Doug Amos is alone at the top with Tim Gayle and Mike Peacock just behind him.
