Seniors lead St. James to area volleyball title

The Lady Trojans breezed to a 3-0 win over Sidney Lanier last Thursday, celebrating an undefeated area schedule and the play of four players on Senior Day in the St. James gym.

In its final regular season match, St. James defeated the Poets 25-4, 25-9 and 25-10 to wrap up area play with an 8-0 record. The team had an impressive 414 hitting percentage, 31 assists, 15 aces, 33 digs and a very low amount of unforced errors.  

“I’m so very proud of the way the whole team played,” St. James coach Karen Lee said. “This is how you want to be playing going into the postseason. This win comes on our senior night and it was a special win, especially for our seniors. I’m thrilled for our seniors -- Danielle Greene, Cameron Greene, Sierra Boles and Rachel Rice -- to be able to complete their last regular season with such an impressive win in front of our home crowd.”

Three seniors had season high hitting percentages. Danielle Greene with 727, Rachel Rice with 471 and Sierra Boles with 750. Senior Cam Greene was able to put up 16 assists which helped the efficiency of the Trojan offense. 

Danielle Greene had 17 kills, two blocks, an assist and a dig, Rachel Rice had nine kills, a dig and four aces, Sierra Boles had three kills, three digs and five aces, Cameron Greene had 16 assists, five digs and four aces, Veronika Kocian had 11 assists, a kill, four digs and two aces, Ava Card had two kills, two blocks and six digs, GeorgeAnn Killough had three kills, Kaylin Corley had three assists and nine digs, Kiya Jupiter had a pair of digs and Kaci Armistead had a kill and two digs.

The Lady Trojans will host the 6A Area 3 tournament on Thursday, taking on the winner of Park Crossing and Carver at 4 p.m.
