GIRLS SOCCER
Montgomery Academy 2, St. James 1
Katie Brightwell scored the only goal for St. James in a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Montgomery Academy at Carlisle Field on Wednesday night.
St. James will hold Senior Night on Thursday at home against BTW Magnet at 5:30 p.m.
Trinity 5, Catholic 0
Mary Alice Sasser scored a goal and assisted on two others and goal keeper Kaylee Peevy had a shutout as the Wildcats defeated Catholic 5-0 on Tuesday night.
Ella Wiswall scored a pair of goals and Ansley Claire Addison and Ella Grace Lowe each added a goal as Trinity improved to 3-0 in area play.
Emma Reid Gamble and Elsie Hufham each had an assist.
Trinity will return to action on Thursday at Providence Christian.
Montgomery Academy 10, BTW Magnet 0
Kerstin Daniels, Mary Elizabeth Cole and Tara Samant each scored a pair of goals to lead the Eagles to an easy 10-0 win over BTW Magnet on Tuesday night.
Hayes Jenkins, Virginia Meacham, Madison Yi and Kaitlin Phenix each added a goal for Montgomery Academy. Phenix assisted on three of the goals, while Meacham, Sophia Cho and Bae Corley each assisted on two goals. Jenkins added an assist.
Prattville Christian 4, Chilton County 0
PRATTVILLE -- Avery Rogers scored all four goals in the game and Kendall Jordan recorded the shutout in goal as Prattville Christian defeated Chilton County 4-0 at Panther Stadium on Tuesday night.
Chloe Steakley assisted on three of Rogers’ goals, while Riley Johnson had as assist as well for PCA (3-2-1).
BOYS SOCCER
Catholic 10, Pike County 0
Will Belsterling, Will Noell and Joey Rodriguez each scored a pair of goals to lead the Knights to an easy 10-0 area win over Pike County in a Tuesday night soccer match at Catholic.
Sam Rogers, Max Barranco and Gibby Souriya recorded goals as well, while the 10th goal was deflected into the net by a Pike County defender on a shot by Rogers.
Matt Russo and Rogers each had a pair of assists. Henry Skala and Baranco each had an assist.
Goal keeper Zach Izer had a pair of saves to preserve the shutout.
Catholic travels to Pike Road for a soccer match on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Chilton County 2, Prattville Christian 0
PRATTVILLE -- Chilton County scored a pair of goals and held the Panthers scoreless in a 2-0 win at Panther Stadium on Tuesday night. PCA (2-3-1) will host Thomasville in its first region game of the season on Friday at 5 p.m.
In the junior varsity game, the Tigers defeated PCA 4-0. PCA (1-3-2) will host Thomasville on Friday at 7 p.m.
BOYS TENNIS
Montgomery Academy 8, Trinity 1
Montgomery Academy needed a pair of third-set tiebreakers in a pair of singles matches and a pair of doubles matches to defeat Trinity in a battle between the top two teams in 6A Section 2 on Tuesday.
Montgomery Academy’s Whit Davis at No. 1 and Guy Hughes at No. 2, along with the doubles teams of Davis and Charlie Hill at No. 1 and Hughes and Gaines Freeman at No. 2 needed a third set to secure the hard-fought victory.
The doubles team of John Alford and Jackson Brown won at No. 3 and the singles winners for Montgomery Academy included Hill at No. 4, Brown at No. 5 and Freeman at No. 6.
James Treadwell won the lone match for Trinity at No. 3 singles.
Montgomery Academy 8, LAMP 1
The Eagles swept the singles competition in turning back the Golden Tigers 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
Singles winners for Montgomery Academy were Whit Davis, Guy Hughes, John Alford, Jackson Brown and Gaines Freeman. Davis and Charlie Hill and Alford-Brown won in doubles as well.
Ian Kim and Ian Shin won a doubles match for LAMP.
Montgomery Academy (14-1) and LAMP will both be back in action this weekend in Decatur at the Austin High School Invitational.
BASEBALL
R.E. Lee 12, Park Crossing 1
TJ Lambert pitched seven innings of 3-hit ball with 10 strikeouts to lead the Generals to an area win over the Thunderbirds on Tuesday.
Lambert also had two hits as did Jerald Bonner. Keishaun McDaniel was 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs, Keshun Marbury and James Sanders each drove in a run.
Lee (11-12, 3-0) will play Park Crossing on Friday at 5 p.m. at Paterson field.
Prattville 9, Vestavia Hills 3
HOOVER -- Drew Brown went 2 for 2 and scored three times and Ryley DuBose went 2 for 3, scored twice and drove in three runs to lead the Lions to a 9-3 win over Vestavia Hills in the opening round of the Hoover Walk-Ons Buccaneer Classic at the Hoover Met on Wednesday.
Pierce Hanna, who went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, staked the Rebels to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Lions scored nine unanswered runs.
Prattville (17-3) tied the game in the bottom of the fifth as Brown hit a leadoff triple and scored on a groundout by DuBose.
The Lions scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth on a leadoff triple by Braxton Piper, followed by an RBI double by Avery Hall for the go-ahead run and later on a bases-loaded two-run single by DuBose to make it 6-3. Another bases-loaded, two-run single by Campbell Seamon put the Lions up 8-3 and Andy Hall drove in another run on a fielder’s choice.
Piper went 2 for 3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI and Seamon went 2 for 4 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs.
Drew Jolley picked up the win, sprinkling nine hits over six innings while walking three and striking out sixth. Calin Tate threw a scoreless seventh to finish the game.
Aiden Black pitched the first five innings for Vestavia Hills, allowing three runs on six hits. Ethan McGriff took the loss in relief, allowing four runs and six hits in one-third of an inning.
Prattville 7, Stanhope Elmore 2
PRATTVILLE -- The Lions jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in the first and three more in the third, to defeat the Mustangs 7-2 on Saturday at Roger Lambert Field.
Travis Stauter went 2 for 4, scored a run and drove in three to give the Lions the lead. Campbell Seamon went 2 for 4 and drove in a run and Drew Jolley went 2 for 3 and drove in a run.
Slade Wood picked up the win, allowing four hits and a run in five innings of work while striking out four and walking one. Jolley pitched the final two innings, giving up one run on one hit while striking out one.
Stanhope Elmore managed just five hits, led by Evan Duncan, who went 2 for 3.
Prattville (16-3) returns to action on Wednesday in the Hoover Walk-Os Buccaneer Classic at the Hoover Met.
Lowndes Academy 12, Sparta Academy 2 (5)
LOWNDESBORO -- Colby Briggs went 2 for 3 with a walk and a double, driving in four runs, and picked up the win on the mound as well to help the Rebels grab a 12-2 win over Sparta in an AA Region 2 Area 1 game limited to five innings by the mercy rule on Tuesday.
Briggs pitched the first 2.2 innings for the Rebels, holding Sparta to two hits and a run, none earned, while walking five and striking out five in the win.
Parker Lawrence finished up the third inning and pitched the fourth, allowing no hits while walking two and striking out two. Watters Box pitched a no-hit fifth, allowing only a walk.
Briggs had plenty of offensive help from his teammates as the Rebels pounded out 12 hits in the win. Clay Duncan went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, scored twice and drove in a run, Clayton Hussey went 2 for 3 with a double, scored twice and drove in a run and Parker Lee Harris went 2 for 4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in a run.
SOFTBALL
Prattville Christian 19, Montgomery Academy 0
Alivia Messick, Lara Beth Nesmith and Kandice Crosby combined for a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in a 19-0 win at Montgomery Academy on Tuesday.
The Panthers improved to 3-0 in 3A Area 6 play in a game limited to three innings by the mercy rule.
Saniyah Weaver went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Chloe Hollon was 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs and Payson Hanson was 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs to lead the PCA offense. Brinkley Sailors added a two-run home run.
PCA (8-5) returns home to play host to Pike Road on Thursday at 5 p.m.
