SPRING SPORTS UPDATE: Trinity softball tops Greenville; MA baseball beats Brew Tech in eight innings

SOFTBALL

Trinity 18 Greenville 7 (6)

The Lady Wildcats (2-0) fell behind 5-0 heading into the top of the third inning but was able to outscore the Lady Tigers 18-2 over the next four innings to run rule Greenville in their home opener.

Micaiah Shelton who went 5 for 5 scoring three runs with four RBIs. Emma Rose Meldrum was 3 for 5 scoring two runs with three RBIs. Mae Mae Milton was 2 for 4 scoring two runs with three RBIs, and Evie Knight was 2 for 4 scoring twice with an RBI.

Kate Knight, Madi Milton, Emory Harris, and Harper Johnson each added a hit for the Wildcats.

In the circle, starter Marley Sharpless gave up seven hits and two earned runs in three innings. Madi Milton came into the game in the fourth with the game tied 5-5 and gave up a hit and an earned run while striking out three in the final three innings to earn the win.

The Wildcats (2-0) play the Dadeville Tigers at home on Monday at 3 p.m.

Pike Road 16, Beauregard 9

BEAUREGARD -- The Patriots unleashed a 16-hit attack on Beauregard on Thursday, defeating the Hornets 16-9.

Addison Belyeu went 3 for 4, scored three runs and drove in two more as she slugged a pair of home runs and added a double. Ameria Anderson went 2 for 5 with a home run, scoring a pair of runs and driving in three. Ava Milton went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double and three RBIs.

Kennedy Cuthbert, Paisley Forshey, Anna Williams and Kelsey Williams had two hits each. Kennedy Thompson added a single. 

Haley Melton pitched four innings, earning the win, and Anna Williams pitched the final three innings to pick up the save.  

Cooper Watson went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs to lead Beauregard.

BASEBALL

Montgomery Academy 7, Brew Tech 6 (8)

Montgomery Academy scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to rally past Brew Tech as John Allen Jones hit a sacrifice fly to score Rick McBride for the victory at Bowman Field.

Brew Tech led 5-3 in the seventh and 6-5 in the eighth, but the Eagles rallied with a pair of runs each time. Eighth grader Reid McBride picked up the win, surrendering five hits and three runs, two earned, over three innings while striking out five.  

Ware McCollum got the start on the mound for the Eagles surrendering just 2 hits and no runs while striking out 11.

The Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with an RBI double by Andrew Hosein but the Rams scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to tie the game. Montgomery Academy took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on a Will Hardin sacrifice fly and a John Allen Jones RBI single but the Rams scored three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh for a 5-3 lead.

A clutch RBI single by Will Hardin and a sacrifice fly by John Allen Jones tied the game at 5-5, forcing extra innings. Brew Tech scored a run in the eighth but the Eagles rallied as Hardin drew a bases loaded walk and Jones followed with a sacrifice fly to win the game.

The Eagles collected nine hits with Hosein, Hardin, Luke Jones and Rick McBride getting two hits each. John Allen Jones led the Eagles with 3 RBIs.

Montgomery Academy (1-1) will travel to Thorsby on Friday.

Lee-Scott 3, Lowndes Academy 3 (5 Inn.)

Dominic Dougan had two hits and an RBI in a losing effort for the Rebels on Thursday. Andrew Yelder pitched three innings, allowing one earned run but earned the loss. He struck out five and allowed just three hits.

Lowndes Academy 5, Chambers Academy 1

Andrew Yelder had two hits including a double, two runs driven in an a run scored to lead Lowndes to a win over Chambers on Thursday.

Braydn Stokes added two hits. Crawford Dansby was the winning pitcher, going five innings, giving up a run on four hits. He struck out four.

BOYS SOCCER

Catholic 4, Andalusia 0

ANDALUSIA -- The Knights got a goal each from Tymari Isner, Joe Reeves, Todd Bonnell and Juan Escalante to defeat Andalusia on Thursday and remain unbeaten.

The goals were scored on assists from Escalante, Max Freeman and David Conceicao.

Catholic (3-0) returns home for a pair of home games next week, facing Prattville Christian Academy on Tuesday and Andalusia on Thursday.

Maplesville 15, Montgomery Academy 5

The Red Devils defeated Montgomery Academy 15-5 on Tuesday.

Kaci Armistead went 3 for 3 to lead Montgomery Academy, while E.K. Casey went 1 for 2 and Rhianna Carstarphen went 1 for 2.

E.G. Hines took the loss in the circle, striking out three in four innings.  

BOYS TENNIS

Montgomery Academy 9, Smiths Station 0

PHENIX CITY -- Montgomery Academy shut out Smiths Station 9-0 on Thursday in a match played in Phenix City, improving to 3-0 in Class 7A Section 2 play.

Winning singles matches for the Eagles were John Alford, Jackson Brown, Ford Morano, Anton Yang, Duncan McInnes and Ron Sharma.

The doubles teams of Alford-Brown, Yang-Mason Kin and Bo Johnston-Liam Baker swept Smiths Station as well.

Montgomery Academy (3-0) will return to action on March 2 with a Class 7A Section 2 match at home against Opelika.

LAMP 6, Pike Road 3

PIKE ROAD -- LAMP shuffled its lineup for Thursday’s match with Pike Road, but managed to win four of the singles’ matches to secure a 6-3 victory over the Patriots.  

In singles, LAMP’s Minsoo Park defeated Micah Cobb at No. 2, Eric Li beat Jack Salmans at No. 4, Matthew Jang defeated Yeongjun Son at No. 5 and Kangmin Park beat Gavin Farley at No. 6.

Pike Road picked up wins at No. 1 when P.W. Quinn defeated Ian Kim and at No. 3 when Chandler Kimball defeated Richard Chen.

In doubles, Cobb and Kimball teamed up at No. 1 to give Pike Road a win over Minsoo Park and Chen, but the Golden Tigers won at No. 2 and No. 3, with Kim and Jang defeating Quinn and Son at No. 2 and Eric Li and Eric Yun teaming up to defeat Farley and Salmans at No. 3.

LAMP (10-2) will return home for a pair of matches next week, playing host to Class 7A Dothan on Monday and 4A-5A Section 3 rival Charles Henderson on Thursday.

LAMP 5, Northridge 4

TUSCALOOSA -- The Golden Tigers won five of the six singles matches to edge 6A Northridge on Tuesday after Northridge swept the doubles in three hotly contested matches.

In singles, LAMP’s Ian Shin defeated Will Thom at No. 1, Ian Kim defeated Tommy Rowan at No. 2, Sun Ho Kim beat Paul Vise at No. 3, Richard Chen defeated Daniel Amini at No. 5 and Wonjun Lee beat Blake Smith at No. 6.

Grayson McCafferty defeated LAMP’s Minsoo Park in the most contested singles match at No. 3.

In doubles, Rowan-Vise defeated Shin and Sun Ho Kim at No. 1, Thom-Smith edged Ian Kim and Lee at No. 2 and Ray Lambert and McCafferty defeated Park-Chen at No. 3.

GIRLS TENNIS

LAMP 8, Pike Road 1

PIKE ROAD -- The Golden Tigers won five of the six singles matches and swept the doubles to defeat the Patriots 8-1 on Thursday.

In singles, LAMP’s Reena Chen beat Naye Yeo at No. 1, Grace Liu beat Olivia Martin at No. 3, Dabeen Choi defeated Esther Lee at No. 4, McKenzie Kim beat Lara Gibson at No. 5 and Jamie Lo defeated Daye Yeo at No. 6.

Pike Road picked up its lone point at No. 2 singles when Grayson Nolen defeated Hannah Lee.

In doubles, Lee-Liu defeated Naye Yeo-Nolen at No. 1, Chen-Kim beat Daye Yeo-Gibson at No. 2 and Choi-Lo defeated Christina Hall and Reese Bullard at No. 3.

LAMP (7-4) will return home for a pair of matches next week, playing host to Class 7A Dothan on Monday and 4A-5A Section 3 rival Charles Henderson on Thursday. 

Northridge 5, LAMP 4

TUSCALOOSA-- Northridge and LAMP split their singles matches, but Class 6A Northridge edged the Tigers 5-4 by winning two of the three doubles matches on Tuesday.

In singles, LAMP’s Dabeen Choi defeated Mary Wade at No. 4, McKenzie Kim beat Anushka Nichani at No. 5 and Jamie Lo defeated Piper Davis at No. 6.

Northridge’s Alice Rowley defeated Reena Chen at No. 1, Carter Thomason beat Hannah Lee at No. 2 and Kate Thom beat Grace Liu at No. 3.

In doubles, Rowley-Thomason beat Lee-Liu at No. 1 and Thom-Wade beat Chen-Kim at No. 2 to give Northridge a pair of points. LAMP’s Hannah Baik and Choi teamed up to beat Maggie Thom and Nichani at No. 3.
