Texas chosen to win SEC softball in 2025

Newcomer Texas is the pick to win the 2025 SEC softball championship, according a vote by the league’s 15 head coaches in the annual preseason poll.

Alabama was tabbed as the 10th-place team will Auburn was picked 13th in a now-16 team league.

The Longhorns clinched first place in the preseason poll with seven first-place votes and 186 points. Florida, the defending SEC Tournament Champion, claimed second place with 181 points and six first-place votes. Oklahoma, the four-time defending National Champion, earned two first-place votes and 170 points to take third place in the poll. Points were compiled on a descending basis, and coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

The Preseason All-SEC Team was also selected by a vote of the head coaches. Florida and Texas lead the way with five selections apiece. Texas A&M had four representatives while LSU, Oklahoma and Texas A&M each had three. Arkansas and Tennessee garnered two spots apiece.

Sophomore Jocelyn Briski was Alabama’s lone selection to the preseason team.

SEC teams are slated to begin the 2025 softball season on Thursday, Feb. 6, and conference play will start off on Friday, March 7. The 2025 SEC Softball Tournament is scheduled for May 6-10 at Jack Turner Softball Stadium in Athens, Ga.
