THURSDAY PREPS: Lee dominates in season-ending win; QB Club names top players for week

Reginald Davis and the Robert E. Lee Generals celebrated Senior Night with an easy 33-7 victory over Valley in the finale in Class 6A, Region 2 teams Thursday at Cramton Bowl.

Davis had his lowest output of the season but after scoring twice in the first half, he sat the rest of the evening while Brian Thomas did most of the work. Davis finished with 88 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns on runs of 28 and 30 yards.

Thomas finished with 118 yards and a score on nine carries including an 83-yard run midway through the second quarter to give Lee a 21-0 lead.

Lee quarterback Jakel Williams ran for a score and threw for another, a 30-yard pass to LaGreer Searles in the third period for the Generals’ final points.

Williams finished with 78 yards passing on 5 of 7 attempts.

Lee (6-3, 5-2) needs losses by Eufaula and Carver on Friday to earn a second seed and a first-round home game in two weeks. The game scheduled next Friday with Pinson Valley has been cancelled.

 

Kirkham, Bowman QB Club Players of Week

The Montgomery Quarterback Club has announced its Players of the Week for games of Oct. 15-16.

Thomas Kirkham from Montgomery Academy is the Private School Player of the Week and Brandon Bowman from Wetumpka High School is the Public School Player of the Week.

Kirkham, a senior defensive lineman, had seven tackles including three tackles for losses in Montgomery Academy’s 20-17 win over Thomasville. Kirkham’s dominating presence at both nose guard and left tackle played a big part in Montgomery Academy holding Thomasville to 58 rushing yards. On theoffensive line, he graded out at 95 percent. Montgomery Academy, coached by Robert Johnson, is 8-0 on the season and travels to Monroe County this week.

Bowman, a senior wide receiver, had five receptions for 99 yards and a touchdown in Wetumpka’s 49-28 win over Calera. He also rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown and threw one pass for a touchdown. Wetumpka, coached by Tim Perry, is 5-4 on the season and plays at Stanhope Elmore this week.
