THURSDAY PREPS: Prattville softball, baseball get key wins; Trinity wins area game over LAMP

SOFTBALL

Prattville 4, Enterprise 3

PRATTVILLE -- Kaytie Chandler’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh drove in Kylie Jarman and Kaylee Robles to give the Lions a walkoff victory over the Wildcats in a crucial 7A Area 3 game at Prattville High on Thursday night.

The loss was the first for Enterprise in the area race, leaving the Wildcats at 6-1 with a game remaining against Jeff Davis. Prattville is 5-1 with games remaining against Dothan and Jeff Davis, while Dothan is in third place at 3-3 with games remaining against Jeff Davis and Prattville.

The Lions were trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh when Jarman put down a perfectly executed bunt for a single with one out. Robles singled to center field, sending Jarman to third while she advanced to second on the play. Sarah Grace Jones was then walked intentionally to load the bases for Chandler.

On the next pitch, Chandler hit a line drive back up the middle to end the game in walkoff fashion.

Chandler went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Robles went 2 for 2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored, Jones went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk and two RBIs, Jarman went 1 for 4 with two runs scored and Kennedy Crum went 1 for 3.

In the circle, Jarman went 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and three runs, one earned, while striking out five. Chandler pitched the final two-thirds of an inning to get the win, striking out one.

Prattville (16-16) returns to action on Tuesday at Wetumpka.

 

St. James 20, Montgomery Academy 0 (3)

Emily Needham and Ava Stanford combined on a one hitter as the Trojans improved to 2-0 in 3A Area 6 play with a 20-0 win at Montgomery Academy on Thursday.

Needham allowed one hit and one walk in two innings while striking out six. Stanford pitched the third inning of no-hit ball.

Ava Stanford was 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs, Sydney Johnston was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, KK Hall was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Tat Shuford was 2 for 3 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI, Emily Needham was 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs, Emerson Hagen was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Arden Green was 3 for 3 with a double, three runs scored and five RBIs and Lily Stanford was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Madi Nolf had the Eagles’ only hit. Elinor Grace Hines, who suffered the loss in the circle, drew a walk.

 

Pike Road 10, Charles Henderson 0 (5)

PIKE ROAD -- America Anderson had a pair of hits, including an inside-the-park home run, to lead the Patriots to a 10-0 win over the Trojans in a game shortened by the mercy rule on Thursday.

Anderson also drew a walk and scored three times. Kennedy Cuthbert and Addison Belyeu both were 1 for 2 and both had a triple with 2 RBIs. Haley Melton and Regan Frazer also had hits.

Kailen Perdue pitched the shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out three and walking two.

Olivia Kirkpatrick, Mileah Ward and Mary Hayden West had the Trojan hits.

Pike Road (17-10) opens play next Tuesday in Dothan’s Diamond Classic.

 

BASEBALL

Trinity 13, LAMP 7

D.M. Lieux held the LAMP bats in check and Ross Sanders and Cooper Bernier each drove in three runs as the Wildcats defeated the Golden Tigers in a 13-7 win at LAMP on Thursday.

Trinity rallied from a 2-0 deficit with six runs in the second inning, then added two more in the third for an 8-3 lead. Sanders and Wilson Albrecht each had a pair of hits, while Lieux drove in a pair of runs.

Lieux was the first of three pitchers for the Wildcats, striking out five in five innings of work. Brady Rascoll pitched the sixth inning and struck out two and Wesley Stallings closed out the game after the Golden Tigers rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Luke Littlejohn led LAMP with two hits. Caden Carpenter took the loss, pitching the first four innings.

With the win, Trinity (11-12) improved to 4-1 in 4A Area 4 play, tied with LAMP and a half-game back of Catholic. Trinity and LAMP resume the series on Friday at 2 p.m. at Whittle-Armstrong Field.  

Prattville 1, Dothan 0

PRATTVILLE - Drew Jolley pitched a complete game two-hitter and Clayton Smith drove in the winning run with a walk-off single to give the Lions an important 1-0 win over Dothan on Thursday.

The win kept the playoff hopes alive for Prattville, which is scheduled to play Enterprise in another key Class 7A, Area 3 matchup next Thursday.

 Lowndes Academy 3, Hooper Academy 1
HOPE HULL - Ashton Yelder allowed two hits and one run, striking out six in a complete-game win to lead Lowndes Academy to a win over rival Hooper on Thursday.
Hooper’s Davis Henry went two innings did not allow a run and just one hit, striking out two. 
Dominic Dougan, Walker McQueen, and Clay Duncan each collected two hits for Lowndes Academy. McQueen and Duncan each drove in a run.

BOYS SOCCER

Trinity 8, LAMP 1

Jackson Champion scored three goals to lead the Wildcats to their 15th consecutive win with an 8-1 victory over the Golden Tigers at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex on Thursday.

Trinity’s other goals were scored by Tillman Clements, Kip Brown, Andy Ensminger, Julian Lee and Garrison Gulledge.

Trinity improved to 11-0 in 4A Area 2 play and has now outscored its area opponents 87-4. The Wildcats close out area play next Friday at Dale County.

Trinity (15-4-1) returns home to face Auburn on Monday at Ragsdale-Boykin Field.

 

Brew Tech 2, Prattville Christian 1

Cohen Palmore scored the Panthers’ only goal in a 2-1 loss to Brew Tech at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex on Thursday.

Cade Segars had the assist on Palmore’s goal.

PCA (3-6) will play host to Holy Spirit on Monday.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Prattville Christian 3, Brew Tech 0

Avery Rogers had a goal and an assist to lead the Panthers to a 3-0 win over Brew Tech at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex on Thursday.

Ava Grier and Riley Johnson each added one goal.  

Kendall Jordan recorded the shutout in goal.  

PCA (7-1-1) will play host to Holy Spirit on Monday.
