TUESDAY HOOPS: MA boys dominate Brew Tech; ACA girls top Wetumpka

BOYS BASKETBALL

Montgomery Academy 70, Brew Tech 26

The Eagles bounced back from Monday’s loss to Auburn High with a strong performance from Brewer Welch, who went 6 of 10 from the 3-point arc to finish with 18 points in a 70-26 rout of the 5A Rams on Tuesday at home.  

Welch added five rebounds, seven assists and six steals.

Mason Ellis added 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals, followed by DJ Vinson with 10 points, eight rebounds, a pair of blocked shots and a pair of steals. Cade Segars added eight points, along with two assists and two steals, while Braden Gordon had six points, grabbed four rebounds and had one blocked shot. Jarrett Friendly added five points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had three assists and two blocked shots.

Montgomery Academy (6-1) will return to action on Friday.

 

St. James 53, Prattville Christian 49

Chase Perry scored 21 points to lead the Trojans to a 53-49 win over Prattville Christian Academy on Tuesday in the St. James’ gym.

Donald Evans added 13 points and 11 rebounds, Wilson Aman had 12 points and Jordan Williams had five points.

Ethan Girlie led the Panthers with 16 points and five steals, followed by Easton Miller with 10 points, Cody Chapman with nine points, seven steals, six rebounds and six assists, Justin Chapman with five points and 10 rebounds, Carter Fiacco with four points and four rebounds and Sam Wheeler with three points.

PCA (2-7) will travel to play Greenville on Friday, while St. James will remain home to play Trinity.

In the junior varsity boys, CJ Robinson led the Panthers to a 40-26 win with 25 points and eight rebounds. Murray Wright added 10 points and nine rebounds.

 

Escambia Academy 67, Macon East Academy 31

CECIL -- Micah Andrews led the Knights with 12 points and seven rebounds in a 67-31 loss to Escambia Academy on Tuesday.

Macon East will return to action this weekend in the Tri-County Classic at Hooper Academy, playing Hooper on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Lowndes on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. James 63, Prattville Christian 31

The Trojans won their fifth consecutive game, defeating Prattville Christian for the second time in a week with a convincing win on Tuesday in the St. James’ gym.

Kaitlin Mitchell scored 22 points to lead the Trojans, followed by Natalie Barton with 19 points, six rebounds, five steals and five assists. Morgan Lilly added 12 points, five rebounds and six assists.  

St. James defeated PCA 52-42 a week earlier in the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tip-Off Tournament semifinals at Montgomery Academy.

For PCA, Ally Blankinchip led the Panthers with 12 points and five rebounds, followed by Baylee Rogers with nine points. Jenna McClendon added four points and nine rebounds, Reagan Houston had three points and Leah Cate Wilson grabbed six rebounds.

PCA (7-3) will travel to play Greenville on Friday. St. James (9-1) will remain  home and return to action on Friday against Trinity.

 

Alabama Christian 48, Wetumpka 41

Jade Newkirk scored 20 points, including 14 in the second half, to help the Eagles rally past 6A Wetumpka 48-41 on Tuesday.

A’Kirra McElveen and  Izzy Warrick each added 10 for ACA (4-1). The Eagles trailed 12-6 at the end of the first quarter but rallied to tie the game 22-22 at the half. The Eagles continued the strong surge in the third quarter, taking a 35-28 lead into the final period.

Jordan Harris led Wetumpka with 15 points, including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.  

 

Brew Tech 41, Montgomery Academy 32

The Eagles dropped a hard-fought contest to 5A Brew Tech on Tuesday at Bear Field House.

The Eagles were led by sophomore Kaci Armistead with 10 points, while senior Sophia Cho had six points in her 2024-25 debut for Montgomery Academy, along with four rebounds and three steals. Senior Caroline Waller had five points, eight rebounds and a block, followed by eighth grader Bailey Davis and sophomore EG Hines with four points each and senior Olivia Smith with three.

The Eagles are back in action at home on Friday against Catholic at 6 p.m.

 

Macon East Academy 53, Escambia Academy 42

CECIL -- Jamiyah Powell scored 21 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Knights to a 53-42 win over Escambia on Tuesday night.

Mya Tatum added 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and six steals, followed by Addison Longcrier with nine points, two rebounds, seven assists and a steal.

Macon East returns to action this weekend in the Tri-County Classic at Hooper Academy, playing Hooper on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Lowndes on Friday at 3 p.m.
