TUESDAY PREPS: Catholic handles ACA in baseball; Pike Road rolls past Park Crossing softball

BASEBALL

Catholic 5, Alabama Christian 4

Alex Fleet, Justin Rose and Brody Hudson combined to hold Alabama Christian to four hits in a 5-4 victory by Catholic on Tuesday.

Fleet picked up the win, allowing two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out one in three innings. Rose pitched the fourth and fifth innings, striking out two and walking one while allowing no hits and no runs. Hudson pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on two hits. 

At the plate, Hudson Parrish went 1 for 2 with a run scored and two RBIs, Caleb McCreary went 1 for 3 with a run scored, Adrian White went 1 for 3 with an RBI and Rose went 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Montgomery Academy 14, Tallassee 1

TALLASSEE -- Montgomery Academy got off to a hot start, scoring five runs in the top of the first and five more in the second to take a 10-0 lead. The Eagles added four more runs in the third for a 14-0 lead. Tallassee got an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth for their lone run of the game. 

Ware McCollum threw a complete game one hitter with nine strikeouts. 

Walton Norrell led the 16-hit attack, going 3 for 3 with three RBIs. John Allen Jones was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Camp Shanahan was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Bray Renfroe was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Oscar Fiore went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs, Will Hardin went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Parker Cook went 2 for 5 and Rick McBride was 1 for 5.

Montgomery Academy (6-3) travels to LAMP on Thursday.

Lowndes Academy 16-14, Meadowview Christian 2-0

The Rebels had all cylinders firing on offense on Tuesday, ripping 11 hits in the first game, including a solo home run from Cooper Dansby in the win.
The Rebels tallied six runs in the third inning.  Pierson Hill, Jase Howard, Dansby, and Clay Duncan each had RBIs.
Noah Smith picked up the win, pitching two innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out four.
Smith, Hill, and Walker McQueen, Hill, and Smith each collected two hits.

Game 2 lasted just three innings due to the mercy rule. Dansby led the offense with three hits plus he had four stolen bases. Duncan had two hits and three RBIs and two runs scored.

Andrew Yelder gave up just one hit to earn the victory. He struck out six of the nine batters he faced.

SOFTBALL

Prattville Christian 6, St. James 2

PRATTVILLE -- Alivia Messick scattered five hits and had five strikeouts in a complete game performance to help the Panthers to a 6-2 win over the Trojans at PCA on Tuesday. 

Sarah Williams led the PCA offense, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs, while Chloe Hollon was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Avery Stokes drove in a run as well.

PCA (10-7) will host an area opponent, Dallas County, on Thursday at 5 p.m. 

 

Pike Road 15, Park Crossing 0 (3)

PIKE ROAD -- Kailen Perdue limited the Thunderbirds to two hits while striking out five in Pike Road’s win over Park Crossing that was limited to three innings by the mercy rule on Tuesday.

Emmie Sphor, Regan Frazer and Ansley Olesen each had two hits and two RBIs for Pike Road, while Haley Melton added a single and an RBI. 

Kaila Boyd and Madison Brundidge had the hits for Park Crossing. 

Pike Road (14-7) improved to 2-0 in area play with the win and will play host to St. James on Thursday.

BOYS SOCCER

Trinity 10, Andalusia 0 

Jackson Champion scored three goals to lead the Wildcats to their ninth consecutive win, an area victory over Andalusia on Tuesday at Ragsdale-Boykin Field. 

Kip Brown and Mac Davis each scored a pair of goals for Trinity. Lawson Roth, Norris Pemberton and Zachary Wilson all chipped in one goal each.

Will Owen assisted on three of the goals, while Roth assisted on two goals and Champion on one.

The Wildcats (9-4-1) improved to 5-0 in 4A Area 2 play and will travel to area rival Catholic on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. 

St. James 3, Prattville Christian 0

The Trojans picked up a win over the Panthers, defeating PCA 3-0 in a game at Carlisle Field on Tuesday. 

PCA (1-3) will take a break for the spring holidays and will play host to Sylacauga in 2 weeks.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

St. James 5, Prattville Christian 0

Katie Brightwell scored a pair of goals and Ragan King, Mary Grace Hixon and Kendal Wright each added a goal as the Trojans shut out the Panthers 5-0 at Carlisle Field on Tuesday night.

Natalie Barton, Mary Grace Hixon, KK Corley, Hope McCain and Sana Shuford each provided an assist on the goals.  

Katie Irving recorded the shutout in goal for Saint James, who will remain home to play Central-Phenix City on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

PCA (3-1) will take a break for the spring holidays and will play host to Sylacauga in 2 weeks.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

Montgomery Academy 9, LAMP 0

The Eagles swept the Golden Tigers in singles and doubles for a 9-0 win at Montgomery Academy on Tuesday in a match postponed by inclement weather last Thursday.

In singles, No. 1 Gabby Barrera defeated Kathleen Doyle, No. 2 Jenna Chandler beat Reena Chen, No. 3 Mae Mae Voltz shut out Hannah Lee, No. 4 Kareena Singh defeated Dabeen Choi, No. 5 Marianna Lassner defeated Grace Lui and No. 6 Anna Powell beat Jamie Lo.

In doubles, No. 1 Barrera-Chandler defeated Chen-Doyle, No. 2 Voltz-Lassner beat Lee-Liu and No. 3 Lola Campbell-Singh defeated Hannah Baik-Choi. 

In exhibition matches, Montgomery Academy’s Claire Moore defeated Baik and in doubles Moore teamed with Lillian Cameron to defeat Stacey Yoo and Lo. 

Montgomery Academy (9-1) returns to the court on Wednesday afternoon against defending 7A state champion Vestavia Hills at O’Connor Tennis Center. 

Brew Tech 5, Charles Henderson 4

The Rams won four of the six singles matches to edge the Trojans 5-4 in a 4A-5A Section 3 match played on Tuesday. 

Winning singles for Brew Tech were No. 1 Ellen Smith, No. 3 Ashley Tiblier, No. 4 Eva Phelps and No. 6 Kenzie Moore. 

Brew Tech also won at No. 2 doubles with the team of Lizzie Thomas and Tiblier.

Charles Henderson’s Ashley Holbert and Keisha Patel won singles matches. The teams of Mary Samson Dunn and Holbert, along with Patel and Jennalee Lunsford, won at doubles.  

 

TRACK AND FIELD

Catholic girls, Dadeville boys win Monday MAdness meet

The Catholic girls finished first among the 13 teams competing and the Dadeville boys placed first in the 13-team field at the second “Monday MAdness” Meet at the Montgomery Academy track on Monday afternoon. 

Catholic recorded 62 points in the 10 events to narrowly defeat Montgomery Academy, which was second with 58 points. Stanhope Elmore was third with 48 points, followed by Brew Tech (38), Alabama Christian (17), Trinity (15) and Dadeville (14.5).

Carr Middle School, Elmore County, St. James, Wetumpka, Sidney Lanier and G.W. Carver rounded out the participants. 

Top performers for Montgomery Academy were Sarah Elizabeth Casey, who tied for first place in the high jump; Susannah Miller, who was first in the 3200-meter run; Isabella Johnson, who was second in the javelin; and Elizabeth Ray, who was second in the 3200-meter run.  

Dadeville scored 98 points in the boys’ events to narrowly defeat Montgomery Academy, which was second with 95.5 points. Stanhope Elmore was third with 62 points, followed by Trinity (33), Elmore County (28) and Brew Tech (17).

Top performers for Montgomery Academy were Skyler Stovall, who tied for first in high jump and was fourth in the triple jump; Chance Wilson, who was second in the 100-meter dash and 4x100-meter relay; Knox Wingate, who was first in pole vault; and Jack Garrett, who was second in pole vault and on the 4x100-meter relay team. 

Rick McBride and Eli Jernigan also participated in the 4x100-meter relay team.
