TUESDAY PREPS: Catholic sweeps Calhoun, Brewbaker Tech in flag football

Catholic 31, Calhoun 0

Jehle Dickson threw three touchdown passes and the Catholic defense posted its sixth shutout of the year as the Knights defeated Calhoun on Tuesday at Catholic. 

Running back Ann Cobb had three touchdown receptions, including two from Dickson, in the win. 

Dickson connected with Cobb on a 35-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring, then passed to Rylee Wilcoxson for the conversion and a 7-0 lead.

Dickson then threw 10 yards to Hayden Fitts for a touchdown and a 13-0 lead before Cobb pulled in her second and third touchdown receptions, one on a 25-yard pass from Paige Sims, another on a 10-yard pass from Dickson for a 25-0 lead. 

Anna Russo added a 5-yard touchdown run to close out the scoring. 

Defensively, Russo and Jamie McGuire had multiple sacks to preserve the shutout for Catholic (6-1). 

 

Catholic 26, Brewbaker Tech 7

Jehle Dickson threw three touchdown passes and Kate Robertson and Haley Ishman led the defensive charge with interceptions as the Knights defeated Brewbaker Tech 26-7 on Tuesday at Catholic.

Dickson had a 20-yard touchdown pass to Hayden Fitts and added the conversion pass to Rylee Wilcoxson for the Knights’ first points of the game. 

Dickson then hit tailback Ann Cobb with a 25-yard touchdown pass and ran in the conversion attempt.

Anna Russo added a 4-yard scoring run before Dickson hit Robertson with a 25-yard touchdown pass.  

The Rams’ touchdown was only the second scored in regulation against the Knights this season. 

Catholic (7-1) will travel to Tuskegee next Tuesday for a 1A-5A Area 5 game at Booker T. Washington, then will travel to Russell County on Thursday.

Pike Road 3, St. James 1

PIKE ROAD -- The Patriots wrapped up the top seed in 6A Area 4 and the right to host the area tournament in two weeks with a 3-1 win over the Trojans on Tuesday in the Pike Road gym.

Pike Road won its 11th consecutive match and improved to 5-0 in area play, sweeping the regular-season series from the Trojans, 25-20, 25-18, 25-27 and 25-17.

For the Patriots, Allie Lovrich had 12 kills, 12 digs and a pair of aces, Marley Gorman had eight kills, three digs and a pair of aces, Kat Wilson had seven kills, three blocks and a dig, Taylor Robinson had 18 kills and two digs, Brely Dees had 14 digs, five assists and an ace, Rylie Fureigh had 24 assists, six digs and an ace, Jada Gresham had 10 kills, two blocks and two digs, Caroline Davis had 19 assists, seven digs and two aces, Sydney Carr had seven kills and a dig and Lola Gorman had 13 digs and an ace. 

Pike Road (28-5) will travel to Russell County on Thursday for its final area match before facing Prattville and Catholic in a tri-match next Tuesday.
