TUESDAY PREPS: LAMP flag wins program's first game;

COMBINED REPORTS

FLAG FOOTBALL

LAMP 19, Ellwood Christian 6

Chelsye Leach-Peck rushed for two touchdowns and caught a third from quarterback Chloe Thomas to lead the Golden Tigers to their first points and their first victory in a 19-6 win over Ellwood Christian on Tuesday at LAMP.

The first-year flag football program had failed to score in losses to Brew Tech, Catholic and Marbury, but found the end zone three times against Ellwood Christian.

LAMP defensive coordinator Jeff Baker prepared the Golden Tigers for the game in head coach Michael Thornton’s extended absence due to illness. Baker’s defense played shut-down football, holding yardage to a minimum and only allowing points on one breakout play in the third quarter.

Rosie Aaij and Kai Leaks each led the Golden Tiger defense with multiple tackles for loss.

Makayla Johnson and Hayden Jackson provided the big plays, each with an interception returned for 30 yards or more. Lainey Clements had a 50-yard punt in the third quarter, which Elizabeth Ladd chased down over 60 yards to make an immediate tackle that solidified crucial field position.

LAMP (1-3) improved to 1-2 in 1A-5A Region 4 play and is scheduled to play two region games next week, hosting Wilcox Central on Tuesday and traveling to Selma on Thursday.

Prattville 48, Mountain Brook 0

MOUNTAIN BROOK -- Kaytie Chandler threw for three touchdowns and Hartley McCay rushed for two more as the Lions defeated Mountain Brook 48-0 on Tuesday in a 6A-7A Region 5 win.

Chandler and Ellie Davis accounted for the four passing touchdowns, which were caught by Mady Cate Lindsey, London Williams, Lanieya Page and Aliza Tirada.

McCay rushed for two touchdowns, had a punt return for another score and recorded an interception on defense.

Prattville (6-2) bounced back from its loss to Central-Phenix City with a region victory, improving to 2-0 in region play. The Lions are scheduled to play Julian on Thursday at Marbury, depending on the weather, before traveling to Oak Mountain on Tuesday for another region game.
