TUESDAY PREPS: Trinity softball smashes MA; PCA runs past Catholic

SOFTBALL

Trinity 18, Montgomery Academy 2

Harper Johnson hit two inside-the-park home runs and drove in seven runs as Trinity remained unbeaten in area play with an 18-2 win over Montgomery Academy on Tuesday at Trinity.

Trinity (6-8) improved to 2-0 in 3A Area 5 play, while Montgomery Academy dropped to 0-3.  
Marley Sharpless and Harper Johnson each had three hits as part of a 14-hit attack, while Evie Knight, Mae Mae Milton and Madi Milton each collected multiple hits.

Madi Milton earned the win in the circle, allowing three hits and two runs, none earned, while striking out three and walking one in three innings.  

Lucy Nelson went 2 for 2 to lead Montgomery Academy at the plate. Davis Anne Fitzpatrick and Ella Claire Corsino each went 1 for 2.

Both teams resume 3A Area 5 play on Thursday. Montgomery Academy will play host to St. James at 4:30 p.m., while Trinity will play host to Alabama Christian at 4 p.m.  

 

Prattville Christian 12, Catholic 3

PRATTVILLE -- Chloe Hollon drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Panthers to a 4A Area 5 win over Catholic on Tuesday at PCA.

Hollon singled in a run in the second inning, hit a two-run home run to left field in the third and doubled in a run in the fifth.

Hollon and Peyton Thrash helped the Panthers rally from a 2-1 deficit in the second inning as Hollon had an RBI single and Thrash tripled to drive in two runs.

PCA added six more runs in the third, again with Hollon and Thrash, as Hollon homered and Thrash doubled in two runs. Addison Byrd drove in another run with a groundout and Chasiti Lindsey singled in a run.

Thrash went 4 for 4 with five RBIs.

Alivia Messick earned the win, allowing just four hits and three runs, one earned, while striking out four and walking none in six innings. Holley Beth Rollan pitched the seventh, allowing no hits and striking out two.

Prattville Christian (22-5) remains unbeaten in Class 4A Area 5 play at 5-0, while Catholic (7-15) drops to 2-3. Both teams will resume area play on Thursday, with Catholic traveling to LAMP and Prattville Christian traveling to Tallassee.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Montgomery Academy 3, Prattville 3

Montgomery Academy and Prattville fought to a 3-3 draw on Tuesday night at McLemore Field, with the Eagles getting three goals from three different players.

Cade Segars scored the Eagles’ first goal, with Hampton Welch scoring on an assist by Brewer Welch and Jacob Stubblefield scoring on a penalty kick.

Montgomery Academy (12-1-2) now hits the road, playing at 7A Area 3 rival Enterprise next Tuesday, then going to Birmingham two days later to play Briarwood Christian.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Pike Road 2, Montgomery Academy 1

PIKE ROAD -- Montgomery Academy lost a hard-fought game at Pike Road on Monday night, with Sophia Cho providing the Eagles’ lone goal.

Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, including multiple shots off the crossbar and several close attempts, the Lady Eagles were unable to overcome Pike Road’s defensive resilience. Pike Road’s defense and goalkeeping proved decisive in keeping MA from leveling the score.

Montgomery Academy (9-3) will travel to Dothan on Thursday for a 7A Area 3 game at 5:30 p.m.

 

BOYS TENNIS

Montgomery Academy 7, Enterprise 2

ENTERPRISE -- The Eagles swept the doubles competition to help them to a 7-2 win over the Wildcats in a 7A Section 2 match on Tuesday.

The doubles teams of John Alford and Jackson Brown, Ford Morano and Edwin Wu and Anton Yang and Bo Johnston swept the doubles matches.

In singles, Alford, Brown, Wu and Duncan McInnes won to help the Eagles improve to 5-0 in section play.

Montgomery Academy (14-1) returns home to play host to LAMP on Wednesday.
