WEDNESDAY PREPS: Brew Tech softball clinches area title; Catholic soccer shuts out LAMP

SOFTBALL
Brewbaker Tech 11, Holtville 7
Taniyah Brown pitched and hit the Rams to an 11-7 win over Holtville at Thompson Park on Thursday, clinching the regular-season 5A Area 4 title for Brew Tech.
Brown pitched a complete game, striking out seven while allowing six earned runs in seven innings. She also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a pair of doubles, a run scored and three RBIs.
Grace Hunter went 2 for 4 with a double, a pair of runs scored and two RBIs and Kaymarria Bandy went 2 for 4 with a run scored to lead the Brew Tech offense.
Gabbie York went 1 for 2 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and a walk, Jaquayla Jarrett went 1 for 3 with two runs scored, a walk and an RBI, Khamiyah Brown went 1 for 4 with an RBI, Taliah July went 1 for 4 with two RBIs and Peyton Garrett went 1 for 3 with a walk and reached base twice on errors.
Brew Tech closes out area play on Thursday at Thompson Park, hosting Charles Henderson. This game is Senior Night for the Rams’ six seniors and an opportunity to finish area play unbeaten.
GIRLS SOCCER
Catholic 10, LAMP 0
Sydney Hall recorded a goal on a penalty kick in Catholic’s 10-0 area win over the Golden Tigers on Tuesday, giving every varsity player at least one goal in a game this season.
Freshman Ellis O’Connor scored three goals and assisted on another and both Peyton Caranta and Kate Johnson had a goal and an assist in the win. Anna Russo, Michael Ann Williams, Carsyn Hawkins and Claire Aaron each had a goal, while Joanna Marlow provided two assists.
Goalkeeper Heather Walski recorded her 11th shutout of the season with a pair of saves. She has allowed just 13 goals in 17 games this season.
St. James 6, Alabama Christian 0
Katie Brightwell scored four goals and assisted on another as the Trojans shut out the Eagles 6-0 at Alabama Christian on Tuesday in a 1A-3A Area 3 matchup.
St. James and Alabama Christian are the only girls’ soccer teams in 1A-3A Area 3, giving St. James the area championship and Alabama Christian the runner-up spot for the upcoming playoffs.
Mary Grace Hixon also scored two goals for the Trojans and assisted on two of Brightwell’s goals. Kendal Wright and Sana Shuford each recorded an assist.
Goalkeeper Katie Irving recorded the shutout in goal.
St. James plays Trinity on Thursday at 5:30 p.m
