BOYS BASKETBALL

Hooper Academy 46, Edgewood Academy 25

ELMORE -- Nolan Cole scored 16 points and Lucas Spellman added 11 as the Colts won the Tri-County Tournament championship with a 46-25 victory over the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.

The win was the third straight for the Colts (4-3), which jumped out to a quick 12-4 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 27-9 at the half. 

Johnny Groves led Edgewood with eight points.

The Colts return home to play Sparta Academy on Thursday and Cornerstone Christian on Friday.

Hooper Academy 48, Lowndes Academy 38

ELMORE -- Slade Russell led a balanced attack with 11 points as the Colts defeated Lowndes 48-38 in the opening round of the Tri-County Tournament in the Edgewood gym on Friday night.

Hooper (3-3) advances to the championship game of the tournament on Saturday night, while Lowndes (2-3) will play in the consolation round.

The Colts held a slim 12-8 lead after the first quarter, then expanded it to seven points, 22-15, at the half before outscoring the Rebels 13-8 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Lucas Spellman and Luke Mosley each added 10 points for Hooper, followed by Kadyn Lumley with eight.

Zach Azar led the Rebels with 14 points, followed by Clayton Hussey with 11. 

Lowndes Academy 39, Macon East Academy 38

ELMORE -- Lowndes Academy senior Clayton Hussey earned his 1000th career point the hard way as the Rebels and Knights staged their second down-to-the-wire contest in a week on Saturday in the consolation game of the Tri-County Tournament on Saturday at Edgewood.

After losing by a point last week, the Rebels won by a point on Saturday. The two teams will play for the third time on Monday in the Macon East gym.

Hussey finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot, followed by Zach Azar with 12 points, six rebounds and a blocked shot, Watters Box with seven points and a rebound, Will Brassell with three points and Pierson Hill with two point.

Keegan Roney led Macon East with 14 points, seven rebounds, two steals, a pair of assists and a blocked shot, followed by Omarion Wilson with 12 points, a rebound and an assist and Jacob Johnson with six points, two rebounds, two steals and three assists. Sam Wallace took a charge and led the defensive effort with four steals.  

Montgomery Academy 72, BTW Magnet 18

After missing two games with an illness, Skyler Stovall returned to the lineup and led Montgomery Academy with 20 points, 18 in the first half, as the Eagles cruised to a 72-18 win over BTW Magnet on Saturday afternoon.

Stovall also had 14 rebounds, four assists and six steals. DJ Vinson added 15 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocked shots, followed by Brewer Welch with 11 points, seven assists, four rebounds and four steals, John Alford with eight points, six rebounds, an assist and three steals and Seth Edwards with six points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. 

Montgomery Academy (9-2) returns to action against Wetumpka on Dec. 19 in the first round of the Coach Jack Schweers Capital City Classic at Trinity.

 Prattville Christian 62, Marbury 50

AUTAUGAVILLE -- Cade Segars scored 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Panthers took third place in the Autauga County Basketball Tournament with a 62-50 win over Marbury in the Autaugaville gym. 

PJ Evans joined Segars on the all-tournament team after scoring 20 points, along with eight rebounds, six steals and five assists. Collier Connell added 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds, followed by Justin Chapman with five points and seven rebounds. Wade Mora grabbed six rebounds. 

PCA (5-6) will host to Pelham on Thursday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pike Road 53, Lanett 27 

PIKE ROAD -- Jazz Johnson had 19 points and seven rebounds to lead the Patriots to a convincing 26-point win over Lanett on Saturday afternoon in the Pike Road gym.

Audrey Blaine added 14 points and nine rebounds, while KJ Fencher had 11 points and five rebounds. 

Pike Road (9-2) travels to Autaugaville on Monday.

St. James 71, Wetumpka 18

Ava Card hit six 3-pointers as part of a 33-point explosion and added seven rebounds as the Trojans overwhelmed Class 6A Wetumpka 71-18 on Friday night in the St. James gym.

Natalie Barton added 16 points, eight assists and five steals, followed by Morgan Lilly with nine points and KK Corley with seven.

Shelby Ward led Wetumpka with eight points. 

St. James (8-2) will take a week off for exams, then return to the court next Friday at Wetumpka.

In the junior varsity game, St. James dropped a close decision to Brew Tech, losing 45-43. Kaden Fair led the Trojans with 20 points, followed by Londyn Swain with 12, Ragan King with six and Elliette Barton with five. St. James (7-1) will return to action next Saturday at home against Catholic.

Prattville Christian 70, Marbury 48

AUTAUGAVILLE -- Senior Avery Rogers scored 24 points, pulled down five rebounds and handed out four assists as Prattville Christian won its fifth consecutive Autauga County Basketball Tournament title with a 22-point win over the 5A Bulldogs in the Autaugaville gym on Friday. 

Rogers was named the tournament’s most valuable player as the Panthers extended their championship streak to five tournaments dating back to 2018.

Jenna McClendon added 23 points, 16 rebounds, four blocked shots and four steals and Kayden Carr had 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists as both players joined Rogers on the all-tournament team. 

Sydney Lee added seven points and four assists and Leah Cate Wilson had four points and seven rebounds. 

PCA (9-1) will take a break before resuming play at home on Thursday against Pelham.
