WEEKEND HOOPS: LAMP tops BTW; Brew Tech girls top MA

BOYS BASKETBALL

Montgomery Academy 68, Brew Tech 39

Montgomery Academy capitalized on a big first quarter, outscoring Brew Tech 20-8, and a big third quarter (25-12) to pull away from the Rams in the Brew Tech gym on Saturday afternoon.

Skyler Stovall and Braden Gordon led the balanced Montgomery Academy attack with 12 points each. Stovall added six rebounds, five steals and two assists while Gordon added five rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Jarrett Friendly scored nine points, grabbed six rebounds, had three steals and two assists, followed by Brewer Welch with eight points, six assists and four steals and DJ Vinson with six points, eight rebounds and four steals, Seth Edwards and Mason Ellis each scored six points as well. Ellis added four assists.

Montgomery Academy (19-2) hits the road this week for a pair of 3A Area 5 games, playing at Thorsby on Tuesday and Alabama Christian on Friday.

 

LAMP 52, BTW Magnet 37

The Golden Tigers held BTW Magnet to a pair of field goals in the first half to jump out to a 15-point halftime lead and cruise to a 52-37 win in the LAMP gym on Saturday night.

Benedict Acwuba led LAMP with 15 points, followed by Ezekial Griffin with 14. Elliott Farrior added 11 points, all in the second half, and TJ English had nine.

Michael-Christipher Reese led BTW Magnet with 15 points, followed by Noah Hollinger with 10.

LAMP (9-10) will play a trio of 4A Area 5 games this week, hosting Tallassee on Tuesday and Trinity on Thursday before traveling to Catholic on Friday.  

 

Valiant Cross 66, Macon East Academy 52

Jackson Todd had a double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, but the Knights fell to Valiant Cross Academy 66-52 on Saturday afternoon.

Micah Andrews added 13 points and seven rebounds for Macon East, which returns home to play Chambers Academy on Tuesday in a Class AA Region 1 Area 1 game, followed by a home game against Abbeville Christian on Thursday.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Evangel Christian 53, Escambia Academy 22

Erica Burton scored 21 points to help Evangel Christian snap a two-game losing streak and defeat Escambia Academy 53-22 in the Evangel gym on Saturday afternoon.

A.K. Davis added 11 points for the Lions, followed by Mariah Curry with eight.

Evangel Christian (10-5) remains at home to play AA Region 1 Area 2 opponent Lowndes Academy on Tuesday.

 

Brew Tech 50, Montgomery Academy 37

Montgomery Academy struggled to overcome a sluggish start, rallying from a 29-11 halftime deficit with a 17-9 push in the third quarter before falling to the Rams 50-37 in the Brew Tech gym on Saturday afternoon.

Bailey Davis led the Eagles with 13 points, nine of which came in the third quarter, while also adding three rebounds, a steal and an assist. E.G. Hines scored nine points, all from the beyond the arc, and added five rebounds, an assist and a steal. Caroline Waller added seven points, four rebounds, an assist and two steals.

Olivia Smith had four points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal, Kaci Armistead had two points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals and Garland Thomas had two points, a rebound and an assist.

Montgomery Academy (7-12) will travel for a pair of 3A Area 5 games this week, playing at Thorsby on Tuesday and Alabama Christian on Friday.
