WEEKEND HOOPS: Trinity girls down Catholic; Pike Road earns wins in Georgia tourney

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Trinity 68, Catholic 19

Mya Moskowitz scored the 1,000th point of her career on Saturday, finishing with 11 points to help Trinity to a 68-19 win over the Knights in the Catholic gym.

Francie Morris led the Wildcats with 15 points, seven steals, five assists and five rebounds. Maddie Smith added 15 points, four steals, five assists and five rebounds.

Trinity (14-3) returns home to play host to Montgomery Academy on Friday.  

 

Pike Road 50, Glynn Academy (GA) 47

MOULTRIE, Ga. -- Audry Blaine had 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead Pike Road to a win over Glynn Academy in the final game of the Vereen Sports Medicine Tournament at Colquitt High on Saturday. 

Jazz Johnson added 13 points and five rebounds as the Patriots won their 11th consecutive game and finished the tournament 3-0. KJ Fencher chipped in with 10 points. 

Pike Road (15-2) returns home to play host to Russell County in a 6A Area 3 game at home on Jan. 6.

Pike Road 51, Bainbridge (Ga.) 31 

MOULTRIE, Ga. -- Audrey Blaine had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Patriots to a 20-point victory over Bainbridge in the second round of the Vereen Sports Medicine Tournament at Colquitt High School.

Jazz Johnson followed with a double double of 12 points and 12 rebounds for Pike Road, while KJ Fencher and Erica Burton had seven points each. Amya Baker had four points and 11 rebounds.

 

Decatur Heritage 62, St. James 57

HUNTSVILLE -- Decatur Heritage held off the Trojans for a 62-57 win in the final day of the Falcon Christmas Classic Tournament at St. John Paul II.

Ava Card led St. James with 21 points, followed by KK Corley with 13 points.  

St. James (15-4) will return to action on Jan. 9 at home against Alabama Christian Academy. 

 

Sparkman 47, Prattville Christian 36

HAZEL GREEN -- Prattville Christian played its third ranked team in as many days, falling to Sparkman, the No. 2-ranked team in Class 7A, in the Hazel Green gym on Friday.  

Jenna McClendon led the Lady Panthers with 13 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Kayden Carr with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists and Avery Rogers with 11 points. 

PCA (13-4) will return to action on Jan. 5 at home against Catholic.

 

BOYS BASKETBALL 

Jacksonville 61, Prattville Christian 44

GUNTERSVILLE -- Cade Segars had 24 points and five rebounds, but the Panthers fell to the two-time defending 4A state champions on Friday in the Supreme Courts Christmas Tournament at Guntersville High.

Brady Roberson added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists, followed by PJ Evans with six points and five assists. Ryan Kiefer grabbed four rebounds. 

PCA (8-10) will return to action on Jan. 5 at home against Catholic.

 

Lowndes Academy 46, Patrician Academy 40
GROVE HILL -- Zach Azar had 24 points, 12 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots as the Rebels beat previously undefeated Patrician Academy in the second round of the Clarke Prep Christmas Tournament on Friday. 

Lowndes led 18-8 at the end of the first quarter and 35-15 at the half before the Saints rallied in the second half. 

Clayton Hussey added 14 points, 14 rebounds, six steals, five assists and a blocked shot for the Rebels, followed by Andrew Myers with 10 points and two rebounds, Pierson Hill with three points and three rebounds, Will Brassell with three points and a rebound and Reid Owen with three points and three rebounds.

Lowndes Academy (8-3) returns home to play Sparta Academy on Tuesday.
