WEEKEND PREPS: Prattville baseball continues to roll; St. James girls soccer sweeps two

BASEBALL 

Macon East Academy 14, Ezekial 2 (5)

CECIL -- Hunter Timmerman went 3 for 3, including a three-run home run, and drove in six runs to lead the Knights to their 13th consecutive win in a 14-2 win over Ezekial on Saturday.

Luke Noffsinger went 3 for 4 with a pair of stolen bases and Jabe Boroff, Jack Jones and Bryant Rascoll all had two hits each. Khamani Driver and Dalton Nickels each added a hit.

Rascoll picked up the win, pitching the first two innings and holding Ezekial to two hits and an earned run while striking out five. Timmerman pitched the next two innings, striking out three, and Jason Tatum pitched the final inning, striking out one. 

Macon East (23-2) will play host to Lowndes on Monday.

Prattville 10, Chelsea 7

HOOVER -- The Lions completed a 5-0 run in the Hoover Walk-On’s Buccaneer Classic with a 10-7 win over Chelsea, using an Andy Hall grand slam to jump out to a big lead and hold off the Hornets late in Saturday’s game at the Hoover Met.

Prattville won for the 21st time in the last 22 games with a 15-hit attack, including Hall’s grand slam with one out in the fourth to extend a 3-2 lead. 

Ryley DuBose (2-0) picked up the win, going five innings and allowing four hits and an earned run while striking out four. Chelsea closed the gap to 8-7 in the bottom of the 5th and Travis Stauter recorded the final five outs, allowing just one hit while striking out four Hornets.

Stauter went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, scoring three runs and driving in another, EJ Ousley went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored and Slade Wood went 2 for 3 and scored a run.

Drew Brown continued his amazing week, going 2 for 4 and scoring a run. For the week, the senior went 10 for 15 with a double and four triples, scoring 13 runs and driving in two more. He also drew six walks and stole three bases, giving him a .762 on-base percentage.

Hall, Braxton Piper and DuBose all went 1for 3, with Hall driving in four runs, Piper recording two RBIs and DuBose drawing two walks and driving in a run.

Prattville (21-3) jumps back into area play next week, playing host to Dothan on Tuesday before traveling to Dothan to play the Wolves in a doubleheader on Thursday.

 Park Crossing 13, R.E. Lee 11
Despite 14 hits, R.E. Lee dropped a key Class 6A, Area 3 game to arch rival Park Crossing on Friday.

Keshun Marbury led the Generals going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Keishaun McDaniel and Javeon Vansandt both went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs .

Lee (11-13, 3-1) will host G.W. Carver on Wednesday at 5.

SOFTBALL

Prattville Christian Academy wins Pike Road Patriot Classic tourney

Despite a loss in the opening game on Friday, the Panthers won the Pike Road Patriot Classic, sweeping Saturday’s slate.

On Friday, PCA lost the first game against Charles Henderson, 7-3. Alivia Messick took the loss.

In the second pool game, PCA defeated Geneva 4-2. Messick came in relief of starter LB Nesmith to take the win. Messick pitched 3.2 innings and gave up one hit. Game highlight was Payson scorched a double to left field to score two runs with the game tied at 2-2.

In Game 3, PCA walked it off when Sarah Williams hit a 2-run double to defeat Dale County, 4-3. Sarah Williams also had a solo home run. Alivia Messick was the winning pitcher.

PCA followed with a win over Stanhope Elmore, 4-3. Messick again came in to relief Nesmith to pick up the victory.

In the championship game, in a rematch with Geneva, PCA won 1-0. Messick gave up two hits with five K’s.

For the tournament, Jersee Carter was 5 for 11; Sarah Williams was 4 for 13 with 5 RBIs; Brinkley Sailors was 3 for 9 with 3 RBIs.

PCA improved to 13-6. The Panthers play area foe Trinity on Monday at 5 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER

St. James 6, Alabama Christian Academy 0

St. James 3, Catholic 1

The Trojans opened play on Saturday morning with their seventh shutout in nine games, then returned in the afternoon to subdue a tough Catholic team in a 3-1 win at Catholic.

“Today was a test of our team’s character to come together and compete when things were hard physically due to the multiple matches,” St. James coach Charlie Brightwell said. “I thought all the girls worked hard to find the drive to compete and cover for each other as the day progressed.”

Katie Brightwell scored six goals in the two games, with Sana Shuford, Haley Brightwell and Mary Grace Hixon each scoring a goal.  

Haley Brightwell recorded three assists and Mary Grace Hixon had two assists, with Rylee Richardson, McKenzie Turner and Hope McCain each adding an assist.  

Katie Irving recorded the shutout in the morning match in the goal.  

Saint James returns to action on Monday with a home match against Alabama Christian at 5:30 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER

Catholic 5, St. James 0

Todd Bonnell scored a pair of goals and Zach Izer recorded a pair of saves and the shutout in the goal as the Knights defeated the Trojans 5-0 on Saturday at Catholic. 

Will Belsterling, Matth Russo and Gibby Souriya each added a goal and Matt Russo and Sam Rogers had one assist each. 

Catholic returns to action on Thursday at Trinity.

TRACK 

Montgomery Academy holds annual “Race Against Hunger Meet”

Montgomery Academy hosted its annual “Race Against Hunger Meet” on Saturday as 17 area teams and more than 500 athletes from the surrounding area descended on the Eagles’ campus to compete.

The meet also serves as the beginning of a canned food drive benefiting the Montgomery Area Food Bank. Drop off locations will be located at the school’s Vaughn Road campus this next week for anyone that wants to bring donations.

Among the highlights was the performance of Montgomery Academy’s Isabella Johnson, who won the discus with a throw of 85 feet, 9 inches, won javelin with a throw of 90 feet 10 inches and placed third in shot put.

Teammate Elle Ingram placed second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:55.

Placing third in their respective events for the boys’ team were Killian White in the discus, Jack Garrett in pole vault and the Eagles’ 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Garrett, Rick McBride, Eli Jernigan and Chance Wilson.

The Eagles return to action next Saturday at the “Water Under the Bridge” meet hosted by Wetumpka High.
