PREP COUNTDOWN 2020: AISA schedules a work in progress

The Alabama Independent School Association welcomes a new member to its family.
Unfortunately, there are a couple of schools that are sitting out the season.
Valiant Cross will field its first varsity football team this year and will be placed in the top classification, Class AAA.
Willie Spears has been picked to lead the new team from the school that is located in downtown Montgomery.
But the new team will be offset by the possible loss of two more in the area.
Evangel Christian Academy had plans to return after a year hiatus but due to problems with COVID-19 will play 8-man football this season.
The future of the Success Unlimited football team was up in the air for most of the summer, but according to the AISA website, has cancelled its regular season. The program is expected to field an 8-man football team for the next two years.
Otherwise, there are changes in classifications for several teams. Macon East will move down to Class AA while Lowndes Academy moves down to Class A.
In its initial season, Valiant Cross has just seven games on its schedule and is scheduled to play home games at Alabama State.
Macon East and Valiant Cross offset the loss of Success Unlimited by scheduling a game against each other on Thursday, Aug. 27.
Autauga Academy will begin its defense of the Class AA title with a road trip to Tuscaloosa Academy. The Generals lost their game against Vernon, Fla. due to coronavirus.
Plans are still in the works to hold the championships at Troy’s Memorial Stadium but with adjustments in the Trojans’ schedule, that might create a change to the date or venue. The three championship games are currently scheduled for Nov. 22.
