Auburn takes top SEC awards for 2024-25

The 2024-25 Southeastern Conference regular-season champions dominated the league’s top awards as announced by the league on Monday.

Auburn took home two of the top awards and placed two players on the all-conference teams, selected by the coaches.

Bruce Pearl was named SEC Coach of the Year and Johni Broome was selected the SEC Player of the Year. Broome was named first team while Chad Baker-Mazara was named third team.

Broome is Auburn’s first Player of the Year winner since 1999 when Chris Porter earned the award. Pearl’s award was the second as the Auburn head coach (2022) and third overall in the SEC with the other coming at Tennessee in 2008.

South Carolina’s Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk earned SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Tennessee’s Chaz Lanier was voted SEC Newcomer of the Year, Texas’ Tre Johnson was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Year, Tennessee’s Zakai Zeigler was named Defensive Player of the Year and Missouri’s Caleb Grill was voted SEC Sixth Man of the Year. 

Alabama had one player on the All-SEC team in senior guard Mark Sears. Labaron Philon was named to the All-Freshman team.
