Carr leaves Carver for Prattville football

Prattville High officials announced on Friday that G.W. Carver head coach Bobby Carr would accept a similar position as the head coach of the Lions.
“Coach Bobby Carr brings a championship pedigree to Prattville High School,” said Prattville High athletic director Blake Boren. “His proven track record of success and his dedication to excellence make him the right fit for our school. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Lions family and are excited for the future of our football program under his leadership.”
The decision was officially approved on Friday by the Autauga County Board of Education.
“This is an exciting day for Prattville High School,” said Prattville High principal Dr. Daniel Farris. “Throughout this coaching search, we aimed to identify a championship-caliber coach. Partnering with a search committee, we are proud to bring Coach Bobby Carr to Prattville High School. We are confident he will elevate our program to the next level.”
Carr was unavailable for comment, serving as the offensive coordinator in the North-South All-Star Football Game at South Alabama on Friday night.
Carr built success at New Life Academy, then in the Alabama Independent School Association ranks at Edgewood Academy and Autauga Academy, but was continually overlooked for jobs at the public school level, particularly at Elmore County High and Park Crossing. He served for a year in Mississippi, then returned to the state as an offensive coordinator at Elberta before finally getting a shot as a head coach in the public school ranks at Carver.
While the Wolverines failed to make the playoffs this year, Carr built an enthusiastic culture at the school with a stellar group of assistant coaches that helped the team to a 6-3 record in its first-ever season as a Class 7A program. He was grateful for the coaching opportunity with the Wolverines, but almost immediately raised issues with the lack of coaching stipends at MPS schools.
At Prattville, he will face another challenge in trying to resurrect a program that has just one playoff win over the last 10 years and reached the nine-win plateau just once. J.B. Wallace, who resigned from the head coaching position in November, was 21-20 over the last four years. Prattville hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2021.
