FRIDAY PREPS: Tallassee moves closer to another wrestling state title; PCA softball scores three wins

WRESTLING
HUNTSVILLE - Tallassee holds a 41-point lead in Class 1A-4A with six wrestlers in the finals heading into Saturday’s action at the Von Braun Center. . Defending champion Weaver has 133.5 points, Oak Grove, 103, and Alexandria, 100.5.
The Tigers have six wrestlers in Saturday’s finals including Thomas Patterson (106 pounds); Mason Nelson (113 pounds); Land Bell (150 pounds); Tra`mel McCoy (165 pounds); Zachary Crosthwait (190 pounds); Nolan Addeo (215 pounds).
Noah Rains of St. James also reached the finals in 120 pounds.
In Class 5A, Elmore County’s Tyler Payton reached the finals of the 157-pound category.
Pike Road placed for wrestlers in the finals in Class 6A including Dylan Yarema (113 pounds); Myers Duncan (138 pounds); Mason Hussey (175 pounds); Cody Kirk (190 pounds). Stanhope Elmore’s Dominic Sager reached the finals of the 285-pounds class.
SOFTBALL
Prattville Christian 6, Calera 0
PRATTVILLE -- Laura Beth NeSmith struck out eight and allowed just three hits over five innings as the Panthers shut out Calera 6-0 in the Prattville Invitational on Friday.
Saniyah Weaver was 2 for 3 and drove in three runs and Addie Byrd had an RBI single in the win.
PCA (3-0) return to action in the tournament on Saturday with a game against Smiths Station at 11 a.m. and one against Brew Tech at 3 p.m.
Prattville Christian 5, Holtville 3
PRATTVILLE -- Alivia Messick scattered six hits over six innings and struck out six to help the Panthers to a 5-3 win over Holtville in the Prattville Invitational Tournament on Friday.
Sara Peyton Schmidt went 2 for 3 and drove in a pair of runs, Peyton Thrash was 2 for 3 with an RBI,
Holley Beth Rollan was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Addie Byrd was 2 for 3.
Prattville Christian 16, Stanhope Elmore 2
PRATTVILLE -- The Panthers opened the 2025 softball season at home with a 16-2 win over the Class 6A Mustangs on Thursday as Alivia Messick pitched a no hitter with four strikeouts in three innings of work.
Peyton Thrash went 4 for 4 with 6 RBIs, including three doubles. Saniyah Weaver went 3 for 3 and Chasiti Lindsey went 2 for 3 and drove in four runs.
PCA (1-0) plays Holtville at 3 p.m. and Calera at 5 p.m. in the Prattville Invitational on Friday.
Trinity 11, Greenville 0
GREENVILLE -- Madi Milton pitched a two-hit shutout over five innings, striking out four and walking two, and the Wildcat bats pounded out eight runs in the third inning to help Trinity open the 2025 softball season with an 11-0 win over the Tigers at the Greenville Softball Complex on Thursday.
Harper Johnson drove the middle of the lineup, leading Trinity with three RBIs. Evie Knight and Emma Rose Meldrum were a force together in the lineup as they each collected two hits. Mae Mae Milton and Micaiah Shelton each added a hit and scored a run.
Trinity (1-0) will hold its home opener on Thursday, facing Pike County at 3 p.m.
GIRLS SOCCER
Montgomery Academy 4, Stanhope Elmore 0
Montgomery Academy got two goals from Kerstin Daniels in the second half to defeat Stanhope Elmore on Tuesday.
Five minutes into the second half, Daniels opened the scoring with a well-placed free kick that sailed over the goalkeeper to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Cara Hall delivered a precise pass to Ella Harding, who found the top corner with an excellent finish to double the advantage.
In the 63rd minute, Tara Samant provided a perfectly executed cross, which Kirsten Thomas capitalized on to extend the lead to 3-0. The Eagles continued to dominate, and with 15 minutes remaining, Daniels struck again from the top of the box, sending the ball over the goalkeeper to secure a 4-0 victory.
Montgomery Academy (3-1) will travel to Pike Road on Thursday.
Catholic 6, Chilton County 0
The Catholic girls defeated Chilton County 6-0 to capture the championship of the Capital of Dreams Tournament at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex on Saturday.
The Knights won the championship for the second consecutive year.
Goals were scored by Bella Palomino, Aurora Lemuz, Chayse Jordan, Anna Russo, Eryn Owens and Kate Johnson. Owens assisted on three of the goals, while Johnson, Russo and Camila Medina assisted on the other three goals.
Eighth grade goalkeeper Kyleigh Harris recorded her second shutout in three games, allowing just one goal in the tournament.
For the tournament, Johnson had three goals and a pair of assists, Lemuz had three goals and an assist, Palomino and Kendall Johnson each scored two goals, Russo had a goal and an assist, Owens had a goal and four assists and Jordan had a goal and an assist.
Catholic (3-0) traveled to Pike Road on Thursday.
GIRLS TENNIS
Auburn 5, Montgomery Academy 4
AUBURN -- Auburn High won a pair of third-set tiebreakers to secure a huge sectional win over Montgomery Academy in a match on Thursday night.
The Tigers captured four of the six singles matches, while Montgomery Academy won two of the three doubles matches.
Gabby Barrera remained undefeated with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Victoria Choo at No. 1 singles. Barrera also teamed up with Lola Campbell to win the No. 1 doubles match.
Alyssa Kaplan defeated Leah Peden 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and teamed with Lillian Cameron to win at No. 3 doubles.
Montgomery Academy (2-1) dropped to 0-1 in section play.
