MONDAY PREPS: MA tops LAMP on final day of FCA Tourney

Montgomery Academy 4, LAMP 2

Montgomery Academy closed out play in the 32nd annual Jason Armstrong Memorial FCA Tournament Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium, defeating the LAMP Golden Tigers by a score of 4-2.

The game was originally scheduled for last Tuesday, but was moved to Monday after the game between Lee-Scott and Catholic lasted for 12 innings.

Oscar Fiore got the start on the mound and went 2.1 innings, surrendering four hits and two runs. William Marks came in relief of Fiore and picked up the win, allowing just one hit and striking out four in two innings of work. Vincent Desautels pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing just two hits.

The Eagles were led at the plate by John Allen Jones, Desautels and Andrew Hosein, who each had two hits. Jones and Desautels each picked up an RBI. Reid McBride, Paxton Haigler and Marks each picked up a hit for the Eagles. Fiore had an RBI.

Montgomery Academy (5-1) will play host to Catholic on Tuesday at Bowman Field at 4:30 p.m.

 

Bessemer Academy 18, Hooper Academy 1

HOPE HULL -- John Colton Dailey singled in a pair of runs in the first inning before the Rebels added seven runs in each of the next two innings to break open the game in an 18-1 win at Hooper on Monday.

Sam Moss went 1 for 2 and drove in the Colts’ only run. He was also the starting pitcher and went one inning.

Cason Dunlap also had a hit for the Colts.

Hunter Bowman pitched the final three innings for the Colts, allowing three hits and nine runs, two earned, while striking out three and walking six.

Hooper Academy travels to Chambers Academy on Tuesday.

 

Lee-Scott Academy 6, Bayside Academy 2

AUBURN -- The Warriors scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 2-2 tie and lift Lee-Scott to a 6-2 win over the Admirals on Saturday.

Smith Harkins went 2 for 4, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Warriors. Easton Gregory also went 2 for 4 and drove in a run. Barrett Cook and Beau King both went 1 for 3 and scored a run, while Harrison Snow went 1 for 1 and drove in a pair of runs.

Christopher Dean hit a two-run home run for Bayside in the top of the fifth to tie the game.

Braden Martin started for the Warriors, pitching five innings and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking two. Davis MacIsaac picked up the win in relief, allowing no runs on not hits while walking one and striking out three.

 

SOFTBALL

Lee-Scott Academy 10, Montgomery Academy 0

AUBURN -- Montgomery Academy was held without a hit in a 10-0 loss at Lee-Scott Academy on Monday.

Montgomery Academy starter E.G. Hines pitched three innings and struck out two, while Davis Anne Fitzpatrick pitched the final two innings and struck out two.

Montgomery Academy (0-2) will play LAMP on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

 

BOYS GOLF

Montgomery Academy finishes second in 10-team tournament

TROY -- Montgomery Academy finished two strokes back of Jackson High and finished second in a tournament at Troy Country Club with a score of 312.

The tournament included Andalusia, Charles Henderson, Jackson, St. James, New Brockton, Pike Liberal Arts, Pleasant Home, Rehobeth and Straughn.

Montgomery Academy’s Jackson McIntyre tied for low medalist with a 73, while Thomas Floyd finished in a tie for second with a 74. Barnes Trott scored an 81, Conner Evans scored an 84 and Henry Robertson scored an 85 to round out the Eagles.

 

TRACK AND FIELD

Montgomery Academy girls win second ‘Monday MAdness’ meet

More than 20 schools from the River Region participated in the second “Monday MAdness” meet at Montgomery Academy and the Lady Eagles won the event, with the boys finishing in the top five.

Elle McBride was the leader in points for the Eagles after placing first in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100-meter. Emily Ingram also placed first in pole vault and was fourth in the 800-meter run, while Bennett Britt was first in the 300-meter hurdles and Elle Ingram was first in the 3200-meter run.

Kaci Armistead placed third in the 200-meter dash and seventh in the 100-meter dash, Livia Dwyer was second in the 3200-meter run and Emma Grace Thomas was sixth in javelin.

In boys’ competition, Knox Wingate was first in pole vault, while Price McLemore was second in 800-meter run and third as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team. Mac Benefield was second in pole vault, David Whisenhunt was third in javelin, Trey White was fifth in 800-meter run and third as a member of the 4x400, along with Andrew Arnett and Conner Crook. Jack Obenhaus rounded out the Eagle runners earning points, finishing eighth in the 800-meter run.

Montgomery Academy returns to the track on Saturday in Vestavia Hills at the King of the Mountain event.
