MONDAY PREPS: Pike Road hands St. James first loss

BOYS BASKETBALL

Pike Road 58, St. James 41

PIKE ROAD -- K.J. Westry had 22 points, 10 rebounds, a block, two steals and an assist to lead the Patriots to a 58-41 win on Monday night, handing the Trojans their first loss of the year.

Alijah Hicks added 11 points with four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals, followed by Jayden Cooper with 10 points, eight rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot.

Pike Road travels to G.W. Carver on Friday.

Pike Liberal Arts 74, Macon East Academy 58

TROY -- Austin Cross poured in 34 points with the help of six 3 pointers as the defending AAA champions ran away from the Knights on Monday night in the Pike Liberal Arts gym.

Tyler Daniels had 17 points and 16 rebounds for the Knights, followed by Maurice Poole with 13 points, four rebounds, a steal and three assists and Keegan Roney with 12 points, six rebounds, a steal, a pair of blocked shots and three assists.

Jacob Wilson added seven points, two rebounds, four steals and six assists for Macon East, with Brandon Wilkins scoring four points, Garrison Miller getting three and Deonte Powell adding two.

Macon East returns home to play Lee-Scott on Tuesday.

Montevallo 55, Prattville Christian 49

MONTEVALLO -- Freshman Conner Williams led the Panthers with 15 points and 20 rebounds but the Panthers couldn’t overcome Montevallo and dropped their third consecutive game on Monday.

Freshman Cade Segars added 10 points and five assists, followed by Brady Roberson with eight points, Carson Roberson with seven points and PJ Evans with six. Coleman Hunter added three points and four rebounds. Brady Hughes dished out four assists. 

PCA (4-5) will face Marbury in the opening round of the Autauga County Tournament on Thursday.

In the junior varsity game, Collin Ross had 13 points and five rebounds for the Panthers, who came up on the short end of a 41-31 score. Collier Connell added seven points and six assists, Jack Diefenderfer grabbed 11 rebounds and Harris Alexander and Anderson Burkhart each scored three points for PCA (2-3).

 Trinity 80, Westminster-Oak Mountain 67

Cal Bennett led the way with 25 points and eight rebounds as the Wildcats outscored the Knights 80-67 at Captain Jack Court on Monday night.

Jackson Taylor added 12 points and eight rebounds for Trinity and David Michael Lieux had the hot hand from the outside, making three 3 pointers to finish with nine points.

Trinity (5-2) remains home to play Highland Home on Tuesday night.

Autauga Academy 52, Evangel Christian 26

PRATTVILLE -- The Generals remained unbeaten with a 52-26 romp over the Lions on Monday night.

AJ Perry led Autauga (4-0) with 14 points, followed by Rob Rose with 11. Josh Palmer and Pharrell Banks each had 10 points for the Generals. 

Macon East Academy 69, Hooper Academy 39

HOPE HULL -- Sophomore Keegan Roney finished the game with a triple-double despite fouling out of the game in the third quarter, helping the Knights to a 30-point win over the Colts on Saturday afternoon. 

Roney had 10 points, 13 rebounds and 11 steals for Macon East, while senior Tyler Daniels had 15 points, 14 rebounds, four blocked shots, three steals and three assists. Brandon Wilkins added 14 points, a pair of rebounds and three steals, followed by Jacob Wilson with 11 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Maurice Poole had eight points, three rebounds, five steals and seven assists, Garrison Miller had eight points and two steals and Gunner Justice had three points.

Cam Smith led Hooper with 13 points, followed by Campbell Hughes with 10 and Luke Moseley with eight. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. James 44, Pike Road 42 

PIKE ROAD -- KK Hall hit a 3-pointer with 25 seconds left and the Patriots had four turnovers down the stretch, losing a three-point lead as the Trojans scored the final five points in the game for a 44-42 win in the Pike Road gym on Monday night.

Jada Roberts scored 16 points for Pike Road, followed by Jazz Johnson with 11.

Ava Card led the Trojans with 18 points, followed by Danielle Greene with 12 and Hall with 10.

St. James (7-2) will travel to Alabama Christian Academy on Tuesday. Pike Road (5-2) will travel to G.W. Carver on Friday.

Trinity 48, Westminster-Oak Mountain 19

Maddie Smith had 16 points, four assists and three steals and Addison Cherry had a game-high 10 rebounds to lead the Wildcats to a 48-19 win in the Trinity gym on Monday night.

Emma Kate Smith added 11 points, five assists and five steals, Mya Moskowitz had 10 points and four steals and Mary Alice Sasser scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds. Kaylee Peevy grabbed five rebounds to go along with four steals for the Wildcats (7-1), who remain home to play Highland Home on Tuesday.  

 Stanhope Elmore 52, Calera 51

MILLBROOK -- Kelbi Johnson had 18 points to lead Stanhope Elmore to a 52-51 win over Calera on Monday night in the Stanhope Elmore gym.

Jace Haynes added 13 points, followed by Ariel Gilchrist with nine for the Mustangs.

Kaylen Moultrie led Calera with 13 points, followed by Samiyah Jemison and Kayla Banks with 12 points each and Redrea Smith with 10. 

Stanhope Elmore (6-1) travels to Tallassee on Thursday and Chilton County on Friday.

Macon East Academy 36, Pike Liberal Arts 23

TROY -- Maddie Ross had 24 points, six rebounds and five steals, including a 10 of 16 performance at the free-throw line, to help the Knights hold off the Patriots 36-23 on Monday night for their first win of the season. 

Eighth grader Jamya Powell had just four points, but pulled down 14 rebounds. Freshman Julia Mathis had four points and four rebounds, while sophomore Sydney Phelps had two points and 18 rebounds. Mollie Ross added two points.

Macon East returns home to play Lee-Scott on Tuesday.

Prattville Christian 81, Montevallo 24

MONTEVALLO -- Hannah Jones had 17 points, 10 rebounds and four steals as unbeaten Prattville Christian cruised to an 81-24 win in the Montevallo gym on Monday night.

Avery Rogers added 16 points and five assists, followed by CoCo Thomas with 13 points and five rebounds, Ella Jane Connell with nine points and four assists and Jenna McClendon with six points and four rebounds. Kayden Carr added five points, four assists and four steals, Nya Davis had three points and four rebounds and Sarah Williams and Makenna Simpson each scored three points. 

PCA (12-0) will face Autaugaville in the opening round of the Autauga County Tournament on Friday.

Hooper Academy 60, Macon East Academy 36

HOPE HULL -- The Colts jumped out to a 22-point lead in the second quarter and cruised to an easy win over Macon East on Saturday.

Hooper was led by freshman Kaylee Midkiff with 16 points, while sophomore Victoria Hagemann added 10. Freshman Raylee Midkiff had eight.

Maddie Ross led Macon East with a game-high 18 points, followed by Mollie Ross with eight.

Hooper (4-2) travels to Chambers Academy on Tuesday. 

WRESTLING

St. James wins Murder Creek Melee at W.S. Neal

EAST BREWTON -- St. James grabbed first place in the Murder Creek Melee on Saturday at W.S. Neal.

Individual first-place winners for the Trojans were Braylen Corley at 113 pounds; Logan Hartson at 126 pounds; Granger Hicks at 132 pounds; and Clayton Craft at 195 pounds. Owen Penney placed second in the 220-pound division and Jake Huff (152 pounds) and Conner Johnston (138) placed third.

In the junior varsity tournament, Luke Robbins earned first place in the 106-pound division, while Brooks Bachelor was first at 170 pounds. Third-place finishers include Andrew Shalayda at 106, Miles Zukowski at 126, Emmett Rasmussen at 138 and Khalid Jackson at 285.

Hampton Johnson (106 pounds) and Logan Winters (113 pounds) took home fourth-place finishes. 

It was the Trojans’ second tournament of the year. Earlier, St. James had placed second in the Jamie Blakely Duals at Tallassee. 

This weekend, the Trojans will travel to Weaver High and compete in the Gene Taylor Invitational.
