PREP HOOPS: STJ tops ACA; LAMP girls beat Tallassee

BOYS 

St. James 55, Alabama Christian 25

The Trojans took a 13-point lead into the second half and extended the lead by allowing only a free throw in the final 20 seconds of the third quarter to build a 43-15 lead over the Eagles in the ACA gym on Tuesday night.

K.J. Jackson led the way with 17 points. Ethan Beard added 11 and Bradley Thomas had 10 as nine different players tallied for the Trojans.

Avery Stuart led ACA with seven points.

St. James (3-1) will play host to Montgomery Academy on Friday.

Macon East Academy 50, Lee-Scott Academy 47

AUBURN -- Tyler Daniels and Keegan Roney each recorded double-doubles to help the Knights overcome a poor shooting night at the free-throw line to defeat the Warriors 50-47 in the Lee-Scott gym on Tuesday night.

Daniels had 16 points and 23 rebounds, including 15 offensive boards, to propel the Knights to victory. Roney had 11 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocked shots. Maurice Poole added nine points, followed by Jacob Wilson with seven points and Gunner Justice with six points. Brandon Wilkins grabbed six rebounds.

Joseph Horne led Lee-Scott with 14 points, followed by Alex Cash and Payne Weissinger with eight points each. 

Macon East returns home to host the Pepsi Classic this weekend. The Knights will play Hooper Academy on Friday, with the girls’ game starting at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ game. 

 

Chilton County 44, Montgomery Academy 37

CLANTON -- The Eagles played their first varsity game of the season on Tuesday, falling to the 6A Tigers in the Chilton County High gym.

Jamal Cooper led Montgomery Academy with nine points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Cole Caddell also had nine points. DJ Vinson chipped in with four points, 14 rebounds and two blocked shots. Judson Lindsey added seven points, five rebounds and five assists. 

Montgomery Academy (0-1) travels to St. James on Friday.

GIRLS

St. James 62, Alabama Christian 37

ACA grabbed an early 7-6 lead but St. James scored 16 of the next 18 points and led by double digits from the second quarter onward in a 62-37 win over the Eagles in the ACA gym on Tuesday night.

Ava Card led all scorers with 24 points, 12 in each half. K.K. Hall added 15 points, including three 3-pointers.

Jaide Newkirk had 14 points and Katie Chappell added 10 for the Lady Eagles.

St. James (8-2) returns home to play Montgomery Academy on Friday.

Montgomery Academy 49, Chilton County 36

CLANTON -- Chloe Johnson scored 30 points to lead the Eagles past 6A Chilton County 49-36 in the Chilton County High gym on Tuesday night.

Montgomery Academy (3-3) will play at St. James on Friday. 

 

LAMP 58, Tallassee 23

TALLASSEE -- Ariana Cannida scored 20 points to lead the LAMP girls to a 58-23 win in the Tallassee gym on Tuesday. Caitlin Russell added 11, Mackenzie Lewis had 10 and Serenity Griffin followed with nine points for LAMP.

Jyteriuna McKinnon led Tallassee with 15 points. 

LAMP (6-3) plays host to Trinity on Thursday.

Trinity 58, Highland Home 16

Emma Kate Smith scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds, handed out six assists and came up with four steals to help the Wildcats win their fifth consecutive game with a 42-point win over the Flying Squadron on Tuesday night at Captain Jack Court. 

Mary Alice Sasser scored 12 points for the Wildcats (8-1), followed by Maddie Smith with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists. Mya Moskowitz scored eight points with three rebounds and three assists, while Addison Cherry grabbed eight rebounds.

Trinity travels to LAMP on Thursday and Alabama Christian on Friday. 

 

Edgewood Academy 50, Lowndes Academy 28

LOWNDESBORO -- Lindsey Brown had 21 points, 10 rebounds, six deflections and six steals to lead the Wildcats to a 50-28 win in the Lowndes Academy gym on Tuesday night.

Jaylyn Strength added 11points, six rebounds, six deflections and five steals, while Kennedy Mensch added eight points to help Edgewood pull away from a tight game with a 14-5 run in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead at the half.

Mollie Powell led Lowndes with 15 points, while Ashlyn Holley scored all six of her points in the fourth quarter as part of the Rebels’ eight-point quarter.

Edgewood (5-3) travels to Glenwood School on Thursday, then to Cecil on Friday for the Pepsi Classic at Macon East Academy. The Wildcats will play Evangel Christian in an opening round game at 3 p.m.
