PREP HOOPS: PCA'S Rogers scores 40 in win; MA boys tops Catholic

PLANTERSVILLE -- Senior guard Avery Rogers became the first Prattville Christian girls’ player in program history to score 40 points in a game, helping the Panthers remain unbeaten in area play with a 91-13 win over Dallas County on Monday night.
The boys weren’t as fortunate as the Hornets handed PCA its first area loss with a 51-45 win over the Panthers.
In the girls’ game, Rogers scored 36 of her 40 points in the first half, finishing with six steals, four rebounds and four assists in 19 minutes of playing time.
Kayden Carr added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists, followed by Kayleigh Arthur with nine points, Ally Blankinchip with six points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists, Sydney Lee with six points and four rebounds, Leah Cate Wilson with five points and five rebounds, Chelsea Cutler with five points and Reagan Houston with four points and four rebounds.
PCA (19-5) improved to 4-0 in 4A Area 5 play, followed by Wilcox Central (3-1), Dallas County (1-4) and BTW Magnet (0-3). The Panthers will travel to Camden on Friday to play Wilcox Central in a game that will decide the host team for the area tournament.
In the boys’ game, Brady Roberson led the Panthers with 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Justin Chapman added 12 points and 10 rebounds but the Panthers fell just short.
PJ Evans added nine points and five rebounds, followed by Collier Connell with six points and six rebounds and Cade Segars with five points and five rebounds.
PCA (12-12) suffered its first loss in 4A Area 5 play and dropped into a tie with Wilcox Central at 3-1, followed by Dallas County at 2-3 and BTW Magnet at 0-3. The Panthers will play BTW Magnet in a rescheduled game at home on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., before traveling to Wilcox Central for another area game on Friday.
In the junior varsity game, Cody Chapman led the Panthers with 13 points, five assists and four rebounds in a 43-38 loss to Dallas County. Wade Mora added eight points and five rebounds, Ethan Girlie had eight points and five assists and Carter Fiacco added four points and five rebounds.
PCA (5-7 ) will travel to Camden on Friday to play Wilcox Central.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Montgomery Academy 66, Catholic 54
Skyler Stovall had 21 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and three assists to lead the Eagles to a 66-54 win over Catholic in PICE Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 8, but was rescheduled for Saturday because of Catholic’s involvement in the football playoffs.
Seth Edwards added 12 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and two assists as Montgomery Academy outscored Catholic 22-8 in the second quarter to take a 10-point halftime lead. The Eagles maintained the lead despite Catholic hitting six 3-pointers in the second half.
Cole Caddell had 11 points and five rebounds for MA and Brewer Welch scored eight points to go along with five assists, five rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. DJ Vinson scored seven points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had three steals.
Montgomery Academy (18-6) won its sixth straight game in the process and will close out area play next week, playing at home against St. James on Tuesday and Alabama Christian on Friday.
Catholic (9-7) will also close out area play next week, traveling to Tuskegee to play Booker T. Washington on Tuesday before returning home to play Bullock County on Friday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Pike Road 60, Russell County 31
SEALE -- Pike Road snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating Russell County 60-31 in an area game on Saturday afternoon.
Audrey Blaine led all scorers with 25 points and 12 rebounds for Pike Road, followed by Jazz Johnson with 10 points and seven rebounds. Amaya Baker had 14 rebounds and five steals.
The Patriots travel to Greenville on Tuesday.
Catholic 62, Montgomery Academy 36
Catholic led 18-6 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 26 points, 37-11, at the half on the way to a 62-36 win over the Eagles at PICE Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Hannah Smith led the Knights with 23 points and 14 rebounds, followed by Heaven Bailey with 10 points, 10 steals and four assists and Kierstyn Green with nine points and four steals.
