St. James mourns passing of baseball player Carroll
By TIM GAYLE
St. James senior Carter Carroll, a starting third baseman for the Trojans on the field and a popular student off of it, passed away on Saturday.
The school issued a statement on the accident and asked for privacy this week as the school community deals with his untimely death.
“This weekend, St. James School senior Carter Carroll passed away in an unfortunate accident,” the statement read. “First and foremost, our hearts, prayers, and support are with Carter’s family. As a school community, we are all devastated, and helping our students, faculty, and coaching staff navigate through this difficult time is our top priority. We have grief counselors available on site this week for those students and faculty who need them. In addition, we ask for prayers for the Carroll family and the entire St. James community.”
Services are incomplete at this time.
Baseball coach Keith Lucky recently spoke about the upcoming 2024 baseball season and Carroll’s important role for the Trojans. In addition to his performance at third base -- where he earned honorable mention all-Capital City Conference accolades the past two years -- he was one of the Trojans’ top pitchers as well.
“Carter was a kind, funny, and engaging young man who lit up every room he was in and built up everyone around him,” said head of school Dr. Larry McLemore. “He was a person of strong character and a great student and athlete who loved his classmates and teammates immensely. While we are heartbroken, we can be uplifted by the outpouring of love and support, which is a true testament to the positive impact Carter made in his life. We deeply appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers as the Saint James family joins together in love for Carter’s family, our students, and our faculty.”
