BOYS GOLF

Trinity wins CCC Tournament at Wynlakes

Trinity teammates Dawson Criswell shot a 75 and Sam Lee had a 76 to lead the Wildcats to the championship of the Capital City Conference golf tournament at Wynlakes Country Club on Thursday.

Criswell was the low medalist of the tournament, while Lee finished runner-up to help the Wildcats to a 13-stroke victory over Montgomery Academy.

Trinity finished with a 319, followed by Montgomery Academy at 332, Alabama Christian at 351, St. James at 413 and Catholic at 507. 

Montgomery Academy was led by William Hall and Henry Lawson as both shot an 82. Andrew Whang led Alabama Christian Academy with an 80, followed by Julie Waldo with an 81.

The CCC all-tournament team included Criswell, Lee, Whang, Waldo and Trinity’s Jackson McIntyre, who finished with an 81.

 

BASEBALL

Catholic 10, St. James 5

Patrick Ryan went 4 for 4, scoring three runs and driving in another, and Alex Fleet went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored as the Knights doubled up the Trojans 10-5 on Thursday afternoon at Catholic. 

Kam Miller went 2 for 3 as well, scoring a run and driving in one for the Knights.

Alex Wieser picked up the win, allowing eight hits and two earned runs while striking out eight and walking one in six innings of work. Hudson Parrish pitched a perfect seventh to close out the game, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

St. James (7-2) returns home to play Holtville on Saturday at noon, while Catholic plays host to G.W. Carver on Tuesday.

LAMP 10, Park Crossing 4

The LAMP baseball team pushed its current winning streak to four games on Thursday with a 10-4 victory at Park Crossing.

The Golden Tigers (8-1) raced out a 8-0 lead, using a pair of four-run innings to put the game out of reach. The Thunderbirds plated four unearned runs in the sixth inning on a pair of LAMP errors to avoid the shutout.

Will Romanowski led the Tigers reaching base four times, adding a run scored, RBI and a stolen base. Walker Parsons also had a pair of hits and drove in two runs while Andrew Lutz contributed a two-run double.

Carter Lehman tossed three scoreless innings, scattering a pair of hits and striking out five to earn the victory. Josh Bell threw two scoreless innings in relief, while Preston Stephens and Josh Donaldson each pitched one inning.

 Jadarian Calloway led Park Crossing with two hits and a run batted in. Demarrion Lee suffered the loss on the mound, allowing four runs on four hits in four innings of work.

The Tigers will return to action on Friday when they travel to Prattville Christian.

R.E. Lee 13, Sidney Lanier 3 (5 inn.)
Timothy “TJ” Lambert was 3-for-3 with 5 RBIs, including a 2B and a Inside the park home run to lead the Generals to the win over the Poets on Wednesday. Keishaun McDaniel had two hits with three RBIs Javeon Vandsandt was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Darryl Dee’s and James Sanders each drove in a run.

Jerald Bonner was the winning pitcher, going five innings and not allowing an earned run. He gave up two hits and struck out 10.

Lee (6-6, 1-0 6A, Area 3) will host Central-Hayneville on Friday and Lanier on Saturday, all at Paterson Field.

 

Macon East Academy 7, Chambers Academy 0

CECIL -- The Knights broke out of a pitcher’s duel with two runs in the fourth inning, two more in the fifth and three in the sixth to improve to 2-0 in AISA Class AA Region 1 Area 1 play with a shutout of the Rebels on Thursday.

The two teams entered the bottom of the fourth locked in a scoreless tie when the Macon East bats finally came alive. Jabe Boroff went 2 for 3, Bryant Rascoll went 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs and Deonte Powell went 1 for 2 and drove in a run. Jack Jones and Gunner Justice also added hits. 

The insurance runs were nice, but Matthew Kitchens didn’t need them. One run was enough as he pitched a complete-game shutout, holding Chambers to just two hits while striking out 13.

Macon East (14-2) remains home to play Crenshaw Christian on Friday and Hooper Academy on Monday.

 

SOFTBALL

Catholic 17, Montgomery Academy 0

Catholic opened 3A Area 6 play with a 17-0 win over Montgomery Academy at Catholic on Thursday. 

Kayleigh Everage had a pair of hits and drove in three runs for the Knights, while Rylee Wilcoxson had a home run. Auburn Wilcoxson, Carissa Gilbert, Mallory Hildebrand and Jennifer Looney each had a pair of hits as well. 

Gilbert and Hannah Smith each pitched two innings, with Gilbert striking out six and Smith striking out four.  

Catholic (10-7) travels to Prattville Christian for a 3A Area matchup on Monday.

 

Prattville Christian 8, Stanhope Elmore 1

PRATTVILLE -- Alivia Messick held the 6A Mustangs in check, pitching the final four innings and striking out five batters, to lead the Panthers to an 8-1 win on Thursday.

Lara Beth Nesmith started for PCA, pitching three innings and striking out four batters before Messick took over in the fourth inning. 

Chloe Hollon went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, Payson Hanson went 2 for 3 and drove in a run, Jenna McClendon went 2 for 3 and Jersee Carter went 2 for 4 with a stolen base. 

PCA (5-5) will play host to Catholic in a 3A Area 6 game on Monday at 6 p.m.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Trinity 1, Opelika 0

OPELIKA -- Jackson Champion scored the only goal of the game with an assist from Kip Brown to lead the Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over the 6A Bulldogs at the Opelika Sportsplex on Thursday. 

Trinity (6-2) will travel to New Brockton on Monday for its second region game of the season. 

 

Stanhope Elmore 11, Prattville Christian 1

MILLBROOK -- Cohen Palmore scored the Panthers’ lone goal with an assist from Brady Roberson as the 6A Mustangs defeated PCA 11-1 at The Fields at 17 Springs on Thursday. 

PCA (1-2-1) will travel to play BTW Magnet on Tuesday.

In the junior varsity game, Stanhope Elmore defeated the Panthers 8-0. PCA (1-2) will travel to Sylacauga on Friday. 

 

GIRLS SOCCER

St. James 10, BTW Magnet 0

Katie Brightwell scored seven goals to lead the Trojans to an easy 10-0 win over BTW Magnet on Thursday. 

The defense was led by Katie Irving in goal with the shutout and the two center backs, Hannah and Hope McCain.

Rylee Richardson, McKenzie Turner and Mary Grace Hixon each scored a goal. Haley Brightwell and McKenzie Turner each had two assists and Hixon and Kendall Wright each added an assist.

Saint James returns to action on Saturday morning, playing at Westminster School at Oak Mountain in Birmingham at 10:30 a.m.

 

Montgomery Academy 7, Alabama Christian Academy 0

Hayes Jenkins scored a pair of goals to lead the Eagles to a 7-0 win at ACA on Thursday night.

Kerstin Daniels, Sophia Cho, Virginia Meacham, Madison Yi and Kaitlin Phenix each scored a goal for MA. Cho had a pair of assists and Meacham, Katherine Sinco, Phenix and Mary Weldon Armstrong each had one assist. 

 

Prattville Christian 4, Stanhope Elmore 0

MILLBROOK -- Emily Branch scored three goals to lead the Panthers to a 4-0 win over the 6A Mustangs at The Fields at 17 Springs on Thursday. 

Avery Rogers scored the other goal, while Kendall Jordan recorded the shutout in goal. 

PCA (2-2-1) will travel to play BTW Magnet on Tuesday.
