Trinity boys advance to 6A state tournament
MOBILE -- Trinity competed in the 6A Section 2 Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, finishing in second place behind Spanish Fort as both teams advanced to play in the upcoming 6A state tennis tournament.
At the end of the first day of competition, Trinity, Pike Road and Spanish Fort were tied with 28 team points. By the end of Tuesday, Spanish Fort had 40 points, followed by Trinity with 37, Pike Road with 28, Robertsdale with 17 and Baldwin County with four.
Trinity’s Samuel Treadwell defeated Spanish Fort’s Gillen Holley in the semifinals and Pike Road’s Patrick Quinn in the finals to win No. 1 singles.
Trinity’s James Treadwell defeated Robertsdale’s Austin Lynn in the semis and Spanish Fort’s Jake Miller in the finals to win at No. 2 singles.
The brother teamed up to win No. 1 doubles, beating Robertsdale’s Eli Lynn and Marlin Younce in the semis and Pike Road’s Patrick Quinn and Jakob White in the finals.
James Treadwell remains undefeated for the season in both singles and doubles (43-0). This is his fifth consecutive undefeated singles regular season. Samuel Treadwell is 39-4 for the season. Samuel and James Treadwell remain undefeated in doubles for the second consecutive regular season with only one loss in the last three regular seasons.
At No. 6 singles, Trinity’s Sawyer Speagle beat Spanish Fort’s Bryce Walker in the semifinals and Pike Road’s Yeongjun Son in the finals. At No. 5 singles, Trinity's Charlie Franklin beat Pike Road’s Jack Salmans before falling to Spanish Fort’s Lanny Wang in the finals.
At No. 3 doubles, Trinity's Charlie Franklin and Sawyer Speagle beat Pike Road’s Gavin Farley and Jack Salmans in the semis before falling to Spanish Fort’s Maysun Marino and Lanny Wang in the finals.
GIRLS SOCCER
Trinity 3, Catholic 1
Ella Wiswall scored three goals and Cameron Stanley added an assist as Trinity avenged its only loss in area play with a 3-1 win over the Knights at Ragsdale-Boykin Field on Tuesday.
The win left both squads with an 8-1 record in area play. The first tiebreaker is the point differential in the two meetings, but both squads won by two goals, forcing a tiebreaker based on point differential in all area games.
Trinity will travel to St. James on Friday. Both teams will play in the state playoffs beginning April 29.
Prattville Christian 6, Chilton County 0
PRATTVILLE -- Avery Rogers led the Lady Panthers with five goals as Prattville Christian rolled to a 6-0 shutout at Panther Stadium on Tuesday.
Ella Pegg had three assists, while Addison Sutton scored a goal and had an assist. Kendall Jordan recorded the shutout victory in goal.
PCA (4-9) will play host to Holy Spirit on Friday in a huge area game that likely will determine the area runner-up.
BOYS SOCCER
Montgomery Academy 1, Auburn 0
AUBURN -- Auburn headed a free kick out of the box and Tanner Bartgis kicked it back in for the game’s only goal as Montgomery Academy edged Auburn 1-0 on Tuesday night.
The teams battled through a scoreless first half before Bartgis delivered the game-winning kick in the second half.
Keeper Hampton Welch has a clean sheet for the night against the Tigers.
Trinity 3, Catholic 2
Juan Escalante and Ben Chitlik each scored a goal for the Knights but Trinity pulled out a hard-fought area win over Catholic with a 3-2 victory at Ragsdale-Boykin Field on Tuesday.
Catholic dropped to 9-2 in area play with both losses to Trinity, but will still earn a berth in the upcoming state playoffs as the area runner-up.
Max Freeman and Joe Reeves both assisted on the Knights’ goals.
Catholic (13-4) will close out area play on Thursday at Dale County, then end the regular season on Tuesday at home against Houston Academy before playing on the road in the first round of the state playoffs on April 30.
Prattville Christian 2, Chilton County 1
PRATTVILLE -- Cade Segars scored a pair of goals to give the Panthers a 2-1 win over the 6A Tigers at Panther Stadium on Tuesday.
Brady Roberson assisted on one of the goals, while Spencer Perkins recorded the victory in goal.
PCA (4-9) will play host to Holy Spirit on Friday in a huge area game.
In the junior varsity game, Liam Hess scored a goal with an assist from Landyn Guidry in the Panthers’ 3-1 loss to Chilton County. PCA ends the season with a record of 3-6-1.
SOFTBALL
Pike Road 16, Dale County 9
MIDLAND CITY -- Haley Melton earned her eighth win of the year, surrendering eight runs, four earned, in four innings while striking out three and walking one to lead the Patriots to a 16-9 win on Tuesday.
Abby Olesen pitched the final three innings, giving up one earned run while walking four and striking out one.
Addison Belyeu got the scoring started in the first inning with a bases-loaded single that drove in two runs. Ava Milton followed with a sacrifice fly and Mary Hayden Hargrove added an RBI groundout.
The lead was quickly erased with a grand slam by Dale County’s Ella Brooke Barefield in the second inning.
In the top of the third, Belyeu had an RBI double and Kelsey Williams had a two-run double to put the Patriots back on top.
In the top of the fifth, Ameria Anderson tripled and Belyeu followed with a two-run homer.
In the seventh inning, Ameria Anderson hit a two-run home run to bring in Regan Fraser, who had walked. Haley Melton then doubled in Kasyn Wilson who pinch ran for Ava Milton after a single.
Belyeu and Anderson each had four hits. Belyeu had five RBIs and Anderson had two. Melton had two hits as well.
Pike Road (22-12) plays Thursday at Prattville Christian.
BOYS GOLF
Montgomery Academy places 12th in tournament
MIDLAND, Ga. -- Montgomery Academy’s golf team competed on Monday and Tuesday in the 48th annual Larry Gaither High School Invitational at Bull Creek Golf Course’s East Course, finishing 12th in the 18-team tournament.
The Marist School finished first, followed by Brookstone School.
William Hall was the low medalist for the Eagles after shooting a 78 on Monday and a 74 on Tuesday. Mac Freeman had the low round for the Eagles, following up his 83 on Monday with a 73 on Tuesday.
Thomas Floyd shot a two-day total of 164 (80/84), followed by Joe Drumwright at 174 (87/87) and Jackson Williams at 183 (99/84).
