VOLLEYBALL RECAP: St. James sweeps three matches

Prattville Christian 3, Alabama Christian 0

Prattville Christian won its third consecutive area match on Tuesday, sweeping the Eagles 25-17, 25-13 and 25-14 in the ACA gym. 

For the Panthers, Baylee Rogers had 28 assists, four digs, a kill and a pair of aces, Hannah Jones had 14 kills, two blocks and six digs, Coco Thomas had eight kills, three blocks, six digs and five aces and Avery Rogers had 11 digs in Tuesday’s win. Sally Swindall had four kills, three blocks and a dig, Emma Cate Carter had a kill, three digs, an ace and an assist, Natalee Wheeler had two digs and an ace, Leah Cate Wilson had a pair of kills, LB NeSmith had a block and Brylee Byrd had an ace and three digs. 

PCA (10-12) improved to 3-0 in 3A Area 6 play and will travel to Enterprise this weekend for the Enterprise Invitational Tournament. Alabama Christian will play host to Beulah in another 3A Area 6 match on Thursday.

 

St. James 3, Sidney Lanier 0

Saint James varsity volleyball team defeated Lanier in straight sets with scores of 25-19, 25-5 and 25-13 at Walker-Joiner Gym on Tuesday.

For the Trojans, Tatiana Shuford had a pair of aces, two kills, 32 assists and three digs, Kiya Jupiter had an assist, a dig, an ace and 10 kills, Sana Shuford had six aces, three kills and four digs, Kaylin Corley had an assist, four digs, two aces and 12 kills, Ava Card had six aces, 15 kills, two assists and nine digs, Sydney Johnston had four digs, two assists and two aces and Molli Pickett had a kill and a dig.

St. James (13-8) will have a week off before returning to action next Tuesday against Russell County in a 6A Area 4 match at St. James starting at 4:30 p.m.

St. James 2, Providence Christian 0

St. James 2, G.W. Carver 0

The Trojans swept Providence Christian and G.W. Carver in a tri-match on Monday evening, defeating Providence 25-19 and 25-19 and Carver 25-16 and 25-9.

“The girls put up two solid wins tonight,” St. James coach Karen Lee said. “They are continuing to gain confidence in their skills and the ability to run a quicker offense, which is what we will need as we go forward in our season.”  

For the Trojans, Kaylin Corley had five aces, 12 kills, six assists and 19 digs, Sana Shuford had an ace, two kills and six digs, Kiya Jupiter had a pair of aces, nine kills, four blocks, an assist and four digs, Jordan Wesley had a kill and three blocks and Brea Ledford had two digs, Tatiana Shuford had a pair of aces, a kill, two blocks, 33 assists and 10 digs, Ava Card had an ace, 21 kills, three blocks and 17 digs, Molli Pickett had two blocks and a dig and Sydney Johnston had two aces, an assist and nine digs.

The Lady Trojans (12-8) will travel to Walker-Joiner Gym to play Sidney Lanier on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., then will have a week off before a home area match with Russell County.

 

Prattville Christian 3, Dadeville 0

PRATTVILLE -- The Panthers swept a best-of-five series with Dadeville on Monday, improving to 2-0 in 3A Area 6 play by sweeping the Tigers 25-6, 25-11 and 25-10.

For the Panthers, Hannah Jones had eight kills, Coco Thomas had five kills, Baylee Rogers had 11 assists, a dig and three aces, Natalee Wheeler had five aces, a dig and an assist, Avery Rogers had two digs, two aces and an assist, Emma Cate Carter had four kills, an ace and a pair of digs, Sally Swindall had two kills, LB NeSmith had five aces and a kill and Savannah Lamar, Brylee Byrd, and Katelyn Crosby each had one ace.

PCA (9-12) will travel to Montgomery to play Alabama Christian Academy in an area match on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. before traveling to Enterprise for a tournament on Saturday.
