PREP UPDATE: Trinity softball tames Catholic; Macon East baseball edges Edgewood

Each Trinity starter had at least one hit in a 15-hit attack to avenge a loss to Catholic on Tuesday with an 11-3 victory over the Knights on Thursday at Catholic.
In the circle, Marley Sharpless pitched a complete game, giving up one earned run over seven innings. At the plate, Trinity was led by Miciaiah Shelton who was 3 for 4, scoring twice and driving in a run. Sharpless, Harper Johnson, Madi Milton and Mae Mae Milton each had two hits along with multiple RBIs and runs scored.
Trinity (3-5) will return to the field on Tuesday against Stanhope Elmore at 17 Springs in Millbrook at 5 p.m. Catholic (4-9) will remain home to play host to Glenwood School on Monday at 3 p.m.
Prattville Christian 15-7, Booker T Washington 0-0
PRATTVILLE -- Chasiti Lindsey went 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs, Megan Masters went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs and Saniyah Weaver went 2 for 2 as the Panthers jumped on Booker T. Washington for 15 runs in the first game of an area doubleheader at PCA on Thursday.
Booker T. Washington forfeited the second game, allowing PCA to improve to 2-0 in 4A Area 5 play.
Colbie Martin picked up the win in the circle, striking out eight batters in three innings.
PCA (14-1) will remain home to host a tournament this weekend against Scottsboro, Auburn and Brew Tech before traveling to St. James on Tuesday.
St. James 12, Glenwood School 1
Emily Needham and Peyton Middleton combined on a one hitter as the Trojans won their 2025 home opener with a 12-1 win over the Gators shortened to six innings by the 10-run mercy rule on Thursday.
Needham pitched a no hitter through five innings, walking two and striking out 15. Middleton pitched the sixth inning, allowing one run on one hit.
Cayden Henderson had the Gators’ lone hit.
For the Trojans, Kaitlyn Hudson went 2 for 3 and scored three times, Ava Stanford went 1 for 3, scored three runs and drove in two more, Sydney Johnston went 2 for 3, scoring three runs and driving in four, Tat Shuford went 1 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs, Emily Darby went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and Needham went 2 for 3 and drove in a pair of runs.
St. James (13-0) will travel to Hoover this weekend to play in a tournament hosted by Spain Park before returning home to play Prattville Christian on Tuesday.
Pike Road 5, Rehobeth 4
REHOBETH -- Ava Milton and Addison Belyeu each drove in a pair of runs to lead Pike Road to a 5-4 win over Rehobeth in a 6A Area 3 game on Thursday.
Anna Williams got the win, pitching the final 4.2 innings and giving up six hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out four. Paisley Forshey started the game and pitched 2.1 innings, giving up three hits and two earned runs while walking one.
Kaysen Wilson and Ava Milton each had two hits, with Milton driving in a pair of runs with a two-run home run. Belyeu had a two-run single to the wall to drive in two more runs. Ameria Anderson and Kennedy Thompson added a hit each. Haleigh Morris had a sac fly to start Pike Road’s scoring.
Brooke Nowlin hit a pair of home runs and Kryslin Martin added one, all solo shots for Rehobeth.
The Lady Patriots turned three double plays to hold off the Rebels.
Pike Road (6-9) improved to 3-0 in Area 3 play and will return to action in Hoover this weekend in a tournament hosted by Spain Park. The Patriots will open play on Friday against Hatton.
BASEBALL
Bessemer Academy 7, Hooper Academy 5
LOWNDESBORO -- Bessemer Academy scored five runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie, then held off the Colts late to secure a 7-5 victory in a tournament at Lowndes Academy on Thursday.
Jeremy Griggs drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the first for the Colts’ first run before the Rebels scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Cope Russell drove in a run in the second to tie the game and it remained that way until the fifth.
Jacob Adams went 1 for 3 and drove in a run to lead the Hooper offense. Sam Moss, Kaleb Jackson and Ellis Flemming also had hits for the Colts.
Hooper returns to action in the tournament on Friday at 9 a.m.
Macon East Academy 3, Edgewood Academy 2
LOWNDESBORO -- Bryant Grimes was dominant on the mound as the Macon East starter rang up 10 strikeouts in the Knights’ 3-2 win over Edgewood in the opening round of the Lowndes Academy tournament on Thursday.
Grimes allowed four hits and two runs over six innings while walking three.
Macon East picked up a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Thad McKinney. The Knights added another run in the third on a sacrifice bunt by Grimes.
McKinney went 1 for 3 and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Knights. Micah Andrews, Bryant Morrison and Sam Wallace each collected one hit for Macon East.
Ethan Evans went 1 for 2 with two RBIs to lead Edgewood. Cooper Freeman, Brock Whitt and Parker Shaw also had a hit for the Wildcats.
Macon East (12-4) returns to action in the tournament against Bessemer Academy on Friday at 1 p.m.
Lee-Scott Academy 6, Opelika 4
OPELIKA -- The Warriors scored two runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth, then held off the Class 7A Bulldogs in the final three innings to secure a 6-4 victory on Thursday.
Luke Donaldson went 2 for 3, scoring a pair of runs and driving in another to lead the Lee-Scott offense. Smith Harkins, Easton Gregory and Allen Owen had an RBI each.
Braden Martin picked up the win, allowing four hits and three runs while walking four and striking out five in five innings of work. Davis MacIsaac pitched the final two innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out one.
BOYS SOCCER
Percy Julian 4, Prattville Christian 1
PRATTVILLE -- Lian Van Heerden scored a goal for the Panthers in a 4-1 loss to Percy Julian at Panther Stadium on Thursday.
PCA (2-3) will play host to Trinity on Friday.
GIRLS SOCCER
St. James 2, Brew Tech 0
KK Corley scored the game’s first goal and assisted on the second to lead the Trojans to a 2-0 win over the Rams on Thursday.
Elliette Barton scored the Trojans’ second goal with an assist from Corley. Natalie Barton assisted on the first goal.
Goalkeeper Stella Williams recorded the shutout in goal.
St. James (2-0) will travel to Tuskegee on Friday for an area game with Booker T. Washington.
Prattville Christian 10, Percy Julian 0
PRATTVILLE -- Anabelle Weedon scored three goals to lead the Panthers to an easy 10-0 win over Percy Julian on Thursday at Panther Stadium.
Elizabeth Rossi added two goals and an assist, Mady Roy scored two goals and Addison Sutton had three assists. Baylee Rogers, Morgan Lisle, and Mady Boyett each scored one goal.
Scarlett Mahlke recorded the shutout victory in goal.
PCA (3-1) will remain home and play host to Trinity on Friday.
Montgomery Academy 3, Dothan 0
Montgomery Academy scored a pair of goals in the first half and preserved the shutout to improve to 2-0 in 7A Area 3 play with a 3-0 shutout of the Wolves at McLemore Field on Tuesday.
Dothan started aggressively, hitting the post early in the game, but goalkeeper Arden Horne made several crucial saves to keep the game scoreless.
In the 25th minute, Sophia Cho delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Ella Harding, who sent a precise cross into Mary Elizabeth Cole. Cole controlled the ball skillfully and struck it into the corner of the net, securing the opening goal for the Lady Eagles.
Ten minutes later, a well-executed combination play between Kerstin Daniels and Valentina Rubio led to Daniels threading a through ball to Cho. Cho calmly placed her shot past the goalkeeper, extending the lead to 2-0 before halftime.
Recalling last season’s encounter, the Lady Eagles recognized the importance of securing a third goal. Early in the second half, Horne made an exceptional save, pushing the ball around the post to deny Dothan a scoring opportunity. Five minutes later, Mary Elizabeth Cole won a free kick in a dangerous position. Cho stepped up and expertly placed the ball into the top corner, increasing the lead to 3-0.
The Lady Eagles' defensive backline demonstrated outstanding resilience, making crucial tackles and blocks to preserve the clean sheet.
Montgomery Academy (4-1) returns to action on Tuesday at home against Enterprise in an area game.

Montgomery Academy 9, Trinity 0
Montgomery Academy swept both the singles and doubles competition to defeat the Wildcats 9-0 at McLemore Tennis Center on Thursday.
In singles, Gabby Barrera defeated Morgan French at No. 1, Lola Campbell beat Lottie Phelps at No. 2, Mary Surhea White defeated Taylor McCray at No. 3, Elizabeth Campbell beat Hart Johnston at No. 4, Alyssa Kaplan defeated Peyton Lowe at No. 5 and Lillian Cameron defeated Maggie Seymore at No. 6.
In doubles, Barrera-Lola Campbell defeated French-Phelps at No. 1, White-Elizabeth Campbell beat McRay-Johnston at No. 2 and Cameron-Kaplan beat L.C. Wells-Claire McCoy at No. 3
Montgomery Academy (7-3) will travel to Houston Academy on Monday.

At No. 1 singles, Gabby Barrera defeated Ella Brown to remain undefeated this season. Other singles winners were Lola Campbell at No. 2, Mary Surhea White at No. 3, Elizabeth Campbell at No. 4, Alyssa Kaplan at No. 5 and Lillian Cameron at No. 6.
The Eagles also swept the doubles competition with Barrera-Lola Campbell winning at No. 1, White-Elizabeth Campbell winning at No. 2 and Kaplan-Cameron winning at No. 3.
Montgomery Academy (5-3) returned to the court later in the day to play Smiths Station.
